|
Timberline High Senior
Molly Feeley has won the
National Speech & Debate Association's Academic All American Award. As an award recipient, Molly is among the top one-percent of all National Speech & Debate Association members across the country. This distinguished award recognizes academic rigor, competitive speech and debate success and personal excellence.

Marching Band Wins Awards
|
On Saturday, October 26, the Timberline High School Marching Band (pictured) competed at the Mel Shelton District III Marching Band Competition at Boise State University's Albertsons Stadium.
Competing in the largest division, 5A-Large, the Timberline Marching Band received the following awards for:

- 4th Place Auxiliary (Color Guard)
- Best Percussion
- Best Music Performance
- Best Visual Performance
- Best General Effect
- 1st Place Overall
Sweepstakes:
- 1st Place Overall Music (The Mel Shelton Music Sweepstakes Award for highest music score of the competition)
- 1st Place Overall Sweepstakes (The traveling trophy awarded to the top overall scoring band of the 27 competing bands)
This is the 2nd consecutive year Timberline has won the 5A-Large Division and the 1st Place Sweepstakes award.

The following Capital High Band students have been selected to perform as part of the All-State Honor Ensembles. "These students worked very hard auditioning for the groups and are honored to be among Idaho's top musicians," said Capital High Band

CURRICULUM ADOPTION
The general public is invited to review K-2 Literacy Curriculum that is up for adoption by the District. The curriculum will be open for public review and comment from November 1-15 at the Boise School District Services Center Lobby, 8169 W. Victory Rd. Boise, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Currently, the District is piloting two different literacy resources with the goal of this adoption to focus on providing one literacy resource in the future.

RESOURCE CONSERVATION & SUSTAINABILITY
Boise School District prides itself on
providing our students and families with the highest quality education. In today’s environmentally conscious society, that includes understanding methods of conservation, sustainability, and protection of our environment. To that end, the district will communicate information on sustainability initiatives to our students, teachers, and parents, through a quarterly newsletter entitled
Green Apple Bites
.
In addition, to further educate the public, Longfellow Elementary School students recently appeared in the following video explaining the dos and don'ts of local recycling.

- October: October is Next Steps Idaho Month. Visit Next Steps Idaho for more information on the college applications process!
- October 30: Boise National College Fair. Students will have access to hundreds of colleges, universities and service academies at this year's Boise National College Fair. This free event will be held at Expo Idaho (5610 N. Glenwood St., Boise) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for students and families.
- November 1 & 2: JUMP is partnering with several Boise schools as part of Dia de Muertos/Day of the Dead.

- November 9: Annual Boise School District Employee Sponsored Holiday Bazaar, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., West Junior High School, Cafeteria, 8371 W. Salt Creek Ct., Boise.
- November 11: Boise School Board Regular Monthly Meeting, 6 p.m., District Services Center, 8169 W. Victory Rd., Boise. Public invited to attend. When available, agenda will be posted online.
- November 11: Early Childhood Special Education Developmental Screening.
- November 11: Veterans Day. Schools will hold a number of Veterans Day performances/activities.
- November 11: The Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale, the Treasure Valley Band, and the Opera Idaho Children's Chorus will present a free Veterans Day Concert, 7 p.m., Morrison Center.
- November 13: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House for the new Hillside Junior High School gymnasium, cafeteria and classroom addition, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Public is invited to attend. Thank you, Boise voters!
- November 16: Annual Whittier Elementary School Fall Bazaar 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. This is to raise funds for MOSS - McCall Outdoor Science School - a week-long science camp for 6th graders run by the University of Idaho.
- November 19: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House for the new Fairmont Junior High School gymnasium, cafeteria and classroom addition, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Public is invited to attend. Thank you, Boise voters!
- November 23: Boise Holiday Parade, 10 a.m., downtown Boise
- November 25-29: Thanksgiving Holiday Break - No School Pre K-12
