Timberline High School Wins Awards:
On Saturday, October 19, 2019, Timberline High School's Marching Band competed at the Treasure Valley Festival of Bands at Ridgevue High School in Nampa and received the awards for Best Music, Best Visual, Best Overall Effect, Best Percussion and 1st place in the High School 5A-Large Band Division. Timberline's Marching Band also won the Overall Sweepstakes award out of all 19 bands. This was Timberline's 3rd consecutive Overall Sweepstakes win at the Treasure Valley Festival of Bands! The Timberline Marching Band is under the direction of Timberline Band Director

Taft Elementary Students Celebrate New Gymnasium:
On Wednesday, October 16, 2019, Taft Elementary School students celebrated the completion of the school's new gymnasium, new playground and new lunchroom kitchen at a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house. Made possible thanks to voters' passage of the Boise School District's
2017 Bond Election
(86% yes vote), completion of the project is a significant improvement for the school and will help address the educational needs of our community's students well into the future. Thank you, Boise voters!

District Resource Conservation & Sustainability:
The Boise School District prides itself on
providing our students and families with the highest quality education. In today’s environmentally conscious society, that includes understanding methods of conservation, sustainability, and protection of our environment. To that end, the district will communicate information on sustainability initiatives to our students, teachers, and parents, through a quarterly newsletter entitled
Green Apple Bites
.
In addition, to further educate the public, Longfellow Elementary School students recently appeared in the following video explaining the dos and don'ts of local recycling.

Boise Schools Educators Receive National Awards:
On Tuesday, October 15, 2019, the White House
announced
the recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) and the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring (PAESMEM).
Awardees come from schools in all 50 States, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools, and schools in the United States territories of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the United States Virgin Islands. Nominations and awards are facilitated by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and the National Science Foundation. The individuals and organizations announced are 2017 and 2018 Awardees.

Next Steps Month in Idaho
, a time for students to reflect on career goals and start taking steps towards their future. This time of year, juniors and seniors start thinking seriously about their plans for life after high school. The proclamation recognizes the need for students to make space and time in their lives to explore and consider the options ahead, as graduation approaches.

BOISE EVENING SCHOOL
Boise Evening School (BES), located at Frank Church High School, is dedicated to offering students a unique opportunity to complete their high school requirements and receive a high school diploma. Students sixteen or older, who have not graduated from high school but have earned a sufficient number of high school credits, may attend the BES program. Students currently attending classes offered at their local high schools may also attend BES to graduate early, make up credits or to improve grades. BES also offers older students the opportunity to return to the classroom and complete their high school requirements years after leaving school.

- October 21-25: National School Bus Safety Week
- October 23: No Pre K & Kindergarten classes - Parent Conferences
- October 24: No Pre K-6 Elementary classes. Parent Conferences: Elementary evening conferences will be held Wednesday, October 23 and Thursday, October 24; Secondary evening conferences will be held during the week of October 21-24.
- October 25 - No School Pre K-12
- October 29: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House for the new Maple Grove Elementary School gymnasium and classroom addition, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Public & news media are invited to attend. Thank you, Boise voters!
- October 30: Boise National College Fair. Students will have access to hundreds of colleges, universities and service academies at this year's Boise National College Fair. This free event will be held at Expo Idaho (5610 N. Glenwood St., Boise) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for students and families.
- November 1-15: K-2 Literacy curriculum, open for public review and comment. Curriculum will be available for review and comment in the District Services Center Lobby, 8169 W. Victory Rd., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., M-F. Currently, the District is piloting two different literacy resources with the goal of this adoption to focus on providing one literacy resource in the future.
- November 9: Annual Boise School District Employee Sponsored Holiday Bazaar, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., West Junior High School, Cafeteria, 8371 W. Salt Creek Ct., Boise.
- November 13: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House for the new Hillside Junior High School gymnasium, cafeteria and classroom addition, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Public is invited to attend. Thank you, Boise voters!
- November 19: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House for the new Fairmont Junior High School gymnasium,cafeteria and classroom addition, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Public is invited to attend. Thank you, Boise voters!
