NAMES AND FACES
STUDENTS NAMED NATIONAL MERIT FINALISTS

A total of 29 Boise School District high school seniors have been selected as National Merit Finalists in the 65th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Students from each of the District's four traditional high schools - Boise, Borah, Capital & Timberline - are represented. Read the news release to find out who earned this coveted national recognition for academic success.
TIMBERLINE TEAM ADVANCES TO NATIONAL SCIENCE BOWL
A team of talented students from Timberline High School won the 2020 Western Idaho Regional Science Bowl. The team defeated teams from Boise and Borah high schools during the competition, which was held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 on the campus of Boise State University. The Timberline team now qualifies to advance to the National Science Bowl competition to be held in Washington, D.C. April 30 - May 4, 2020.

STUDENT NAMED GIRLS STATE GATORADE BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Boise High School Senior Peyton McFarland (pictured) has been named the Gatorade Idaho Girls Basketball Player of the Year and is now part of a 30+ year legacy that includes past winners such as Peyton Manning, Abby Wambach, Karl-Anthony Towns, Derek Jeter and many other sports icons!

The Gatorade Player of the Year program is proud to recognize the nation’s most elite high school athletes for not only athletic excellence, but also for high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.
AVID STUDENTS OUTPERFORM NATION ON AP EXAM PARTICIPATION

New data for Boise School District's class of 2019 seniors enrolled in the District's Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program show District AVID students outperforming the nation when it comes to taking rigorous college preparatory coursework. AVID is a nationally recognized program that prepares students to successfully pursue college and career opportunities after high school. 

Last year, 76% of Boise School District high school seniors participating in AVID sat for at least one Advanced Placement exam, compared to the national rate of 39%, according to the College Board
MUSIC STUDENTS RECOGNIZED

Congratulations to the Borah High School Jazz Ensemble for an outstanding performance at The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in Moscow this past Saturday. The adjudicators rated the Band Superior in every evaluated category thus scoring a Superior rating overall! The Borah Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Band Director Kevin Sullivan .
GAME CHANGERS IDAHO HELPING STUDENTS SUCCEED

It was all smiles and lots of "high fives" from South and Hillside junior high school students who recently participated in a basketball game at Hillside Junior High School. The game was sponsored by Game Changers Idaho, a Life Skills Development Academy, disguised as an Athletics Program. With a focus on Inclusion, Mentorship, Leadership, Teamwork and Kindness, Game Changers Idaho offers multiple sporting opportunities for children with and without disabilities in the grades of K-12th. STUDENTS COMPETE IN SCIENCE OLYMPIAD

On February 22, 2020, a total of 150 students from Boise School District and a number of private schools participated in the first annual North Junior High Science Olympiad Invitational. Students ranging from 6th grade to 12th grade representing five different schools from around the valley competed in 23 different events. Those included building a mousetrap car, determining a disease outbreak, and building an indoor bottle rocket, among others. Boise School District students received a large number of individual medals and, as a team, were in a 2-way tie for 3rd place overall. Below are photos from the competition.
2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR CHANGES

Due to administrative error, the Boise School District Board of Trustees has voted to approve the following changes to the 2020-2021 School Year Calendar:
  • The last day of school will be May 27th instead of May 26th
  • The last day of school for Seniors will be May 20th instead of May 19th
  • Secondary End of Semester Testing will take place on May 25th, 26th and 27th instead of May 24th, 25th and 26th.

TVMSC NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The Treasure Valley Math & Science Center Application process for those wishing to have their son or daughter considered for attending TVMSC starting in the 2020-2021 school year is now open!

As in past years, TVMSC will also offer two Orientation Nights for prospective families to attend and gain insights and information about TVMSC as an educational option for their children. Applicants should be students who are prepared to take advanced high school and college level classes, regardless of their current age or grade level in their other school.

  • Parent Orientation Night will be held on Thursday, April 2nd from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Don't think completing the 2020 Census is important? Think again! An accurate count helps support our students and programs. National Census Day is April 1st. Online access in Idaho will occur March 23. An accurate count means funding for our education programs. From preschool programs up to universities, the 2020 Census will have an impact on the funding that our education systems receive. It’s up to you, and all of us, to be counted on April 1, 2020.
