Longfellow Students Help Students in Botswana:
In September,
Longfellow Elementary School
(an International School) held a coin drive to purchase
water filtration systems for children in Botswana
(Longfellow's country of study for the month). Thanks to the support of the Longfellow community, more than $1,200 was collected, enough to purchase 24 filtration systems benefiting 24 classrooms (see photos below) at Kgomoditshaba Primary School in the Kweneng District about an hour outside of Gaborone.
"After months of red tape, the filtration systems were delivered today, May 23, 2019!" exclaimed Teacher
Patricia Poppy
. Watch the video below to hear Botswana students thank Longfellow Elementary School for this amazing donation.

Owyhee Sixth Grade Students Explore “Home is Where Your Story Begins” Through Science and Art:
On May 16th, Owyhee Elementary School students unveiled the 4th installment in the school’s “Leave a Legacy” project. Outgoing sixth graders worked with artists-in-residence to plan design, create and install a piece of public art to remain at the school (see photos below). The theme for this year’s project was “Home is Where Your Story Begins” and incorporated visual art, poetry, written reflections, public speaking, music performance and composition, as well as math and engineering. When asked about any advice they give future artists, one student said, “Take your time; but not too much time. Trust your artists and teachers. Take a few risks.”
Thanks to artists-in-residence
Tina Perry
&
Patsy Shouse
, as well as coordinating teachers
Sheryce Davis
and
Emily Beck
for leading Owyhee students through this wonderful project. The finished artwork will be mounted near the main office.
