Hi Hope Ames!

"We couldn't have done it without the fans!"

I heard that about a dozen times from the winning team after the Super Bowl on Sunday, and I hear it basically anytime a major pro sports team wins a championship.

"It was all you, fans!"

Oh, seriously?

In that case, I'm imagining what might've happened if I bought all the gear, suited up in a uniform and walked up to Tom Brady (the game-winning Quarterback, in case you're not familiar with football) and said, "Okay, I'm ready to play."

Worst case scenario, I would have gotten arrested for trespassing. Best case scenario, Mr. Brady would have politely said, "We don't need you." Equally true, he could say, "We don't want you."

Truth is, I'm not needed on the New England Patriots. I would just be getting in the way.

Have sports conditioned us to see the rest of the world as if we're just fans of it all? Have we started to believe that our job is only to watch others do the work and hope they acknowledge us after its over?

I hope you know that you're not just getting in the way. You are needed.

The Apostle Paul wrote, "All of you together are Christ's body, and each of you is a part of it" (1 Corinthians 12:27).

There are no fans in Christianity. Whether we believe it or not, each one of us is vital to the rest of the body of Christ.

"If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything?" (1 Corinthians 12:17).

For some of us in the body of Christ, it's time to get out of the stands and gear up. The good news is that we have all sorts of those opportunities for you at Hope Ames. Just check out our website's "Serve" tab here.

I know I talk about this stuff a lot - getting involved - and the reason is because that's how much you're needed. That's how much we believe in what God can do through you as a part of the body of Christ.

"We couldn't do it without you!" And I seriously mean that.

Come to the Ames City Auditorium on Sunday morning at 10:00, and we'll listen to a message that tells us more about what it means to be the body of Christ! I can't wait to see you there!

Peace,

Danny
