“Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” - Luke 18:14
What an encouraging season of ministry we’re experiencing at South Gate! We’ve had so many opportunities to celebrate what God is doing in and through our church family.
Last Saturday, our Women’s Ministry hosted a wonderful brunch as Lyndsay Cullum spoke from God’s Word, and our ladies enjoyed a great time of fellowship and encouragement. On Sunday, we had the privilege of welcoming Dr. Wes Fowler, Executive Director of the Missouri Baptist Convention, who brought a powerful message from God’s Word on pursuing those Jesus pursued. I’m thankful for these opportunities to grow together and be encouraged in our walk with the Lord!
One exciting ministry development you might not know is that we've had a preaching cohort meeting weekly for the past two months. I've had the privilege of working with a great group of men who have been studying God's Word, praying, and preparing to preach (for many of them, their very first sermon!). I'm excited that several of these men will have the opportunity to preach their sermons to our church family on Wednesday nights in 2027. What an encouragement it is to see men hungry for God's Word and eager to share it with others!
This Sunday, we’ll continue our study through Luke’s Gospel in Luke 18:1-17 as we see that we are to pray with hopeful persistence, repent with genuine humility, and recognize our complete dependence upon His grace! In a world that loves talking about how we’re strong, independent, and in control, God’s Word reminds us that we desperately need Him each step of the way.
God is good, and I can’t wait to worship with you this Sunday. Between now and then, read Luke 18:1-17, and come to Him in prayer with persistence as you remember that our hope as believers rests in God’s faithfulness, not our strength.
Know that you are loved and prayed for,
Pastor Joel
