Independence Day Extravaganza a Big Blast
Thanks to everyone who turned out to enjoy the Palmetto Bay "Sixth Annual Independence Day Extravaganza."

Thousands enjoyed the rides, games, music and fireworks under clear skies at Village Hall. We especially thank our wonderful sponsors, who year after year help make it all come together. We also recognize all of our friends who joined us onstage; "Mayor for a Day" Natalia Quick, Cutler Bay Mayor Tim Meerbot and Council, Florida Representative Vance Aloupis, State Senator Jose Javier Rodriguez, State Representative Javier Fernandez, Miami-Dade District 8 Councilwoman Daniella Levine-Cava, and School Board Member District 9 Dr. Larry Feldman. They all joined Mayor Karyn Cunningham and Council in presenting former Palmetto Bay Mayor Shelley Stanczyk with a proclamation thanking her for founding this event in 2014.

The presentations then turned to two local active service military personnel: Army Captain Josh Underwood and Airman Eric Stern, both from our area. Captain Underwood is now serving in Iraq, and Airman Stern is in Japan. Their families received proclamations on their behalf, and were surprised by two large "care packages" loaded with goodies and heartfelt letters of gratitude (written by youngsters attending Palmetto Bay summer camp)that are now headed to Josh and Eric. The big bang was the biggest and brightest!
