Feast of the Transfiguration

Join us for Divine Liturgy at

6pm on Wednesday, August 5,

as we celebrate our Lord's
glorious Transfiguration!

(No sign-up required.)
Food Drive
Our parish will begin restocking our food pantry during the month of August. We have created a signup, so that we will receive what is most needed now in our community. We are asking that you bring items and place them on the baptistry before or after Liturgy on the weekends of Aug. 8-9, 22-23, or 28-29th. Thank you for helping us help our community during this difficult time!

Miller Family Update
Monastery Trip Cancelled
Our annual Men's Monastery Retreat is a beautiful, longstanding tradition for Holy Ascension. For several years we have been making a pilgrimage to St Michael's Monastery in Cañones, New Mexico. But, sadly, we are unable to undertake the retreat this year. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the State of New Mexico now requires a 14-day quarantine by all visitors from other states—basically, eliminating the possibility of visits lasting less than two weeks. God willing, however, we will resume this great tradition next year!
Fasting Guidelines
The Dormition Fast begins this Saturday, August 1, and continues through August 14. During this period, we prepare to celebrate the Dormition of the Theotokos through fasting, prayer, confession, and works of Christian service. It is traditional to abstain from meat, fish, dairy, and alcohol, with the following exceptions: alcohol may be consumed in moderation on Saturdays and Sundays; and fish and moderate alcohol may be consumed on Thursday, August 6, in honor of the Feast of the Transfiguration of Our Lord.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, these precautions are in effect for all services:
  • You must not attend if (in the past two weeks) any member of your household has either
  • had symptoms of Covid-19 (fever, serious coughing, or shortness of breath) or
  • been in close contact with someone who tested positive for Covid-19.
(If the one with symptoms or close contact has been cleared by a negative Covid-19 test result, then the household may attend.)

Visitors and Non-parishioners: If you would like to attend Divine Liturgy (or Orthros), please email Fr Jeremy (reply to this email or click here). Signup is required for those services.

For those who prefer to read services at home, the Sunday Typika Service (in lieu of Liturgy) can be found here: normanorthodox.church/typikaservice.
Weekly Paraklesis
We now have a weekly Paraklesis to the Theotokos, every Wednesday at 6pm (next week it will be on Tuesday, August 4). This is a service of supplication to the Virgin Mary in times of distress—very appropriate in the difficulties we now face. No signup required. The service will also be live-streamed.

If you would like to add someone to the prayer list for this service, please email Fr Jeremy (either reply to this email or click here).
St Timon Sunday
Since 2008, our diocese has supported the Archdiocese of Bosra-Hauran in Syria through "The Hauran Connection."

The Archdiocese of Bosra-Hauran is ancient, founded in the first century through the preaching of the Holy Apostle Timon (Feastday: July 28). For many years now, it has endured extreme hardship in the face of persistent poverty and civil war.

Each year at this time, we take a special collection to support the Hauran Archdiocese's humanitarian work. They provide food, shelter and other services not only among the Orthodox of the area, but also among their Muslim and Druze neighbors.

Please mail your donation to the church this week, ASAP.
