SCHOOL CHOICE:
Where Should My Kindergartner Go?
As families make the "Kindergarten Rounds" this Winter and learn about our amazing schools, perhaps the most common question that gets asked is "Where should I send my kindergartner?"  After all, Culver City boasts world class options for families interested in the Arts, Sciences, Language Immersion, and small-town neighborhood schooling.  To this end, there is no best choice; all of our 3,200 elementary families love their respective schools.  So, when it comes to where you'll send your Kindergartner, the good news is that you can't go wrong.  All of our students end up at CCMS by the time they are in 6th grade, and they learn, grow, and develop together as a cohort for the next seven years, making the Culver City High School experience one of the strongest in the country.   #FutureCentaur --- let that guide your decision making this Fall :)

Food Services Hosts 1st Annual Taste-Off!
Healthy and delicious.  Those are the two values with which our incredible food service chefs and kitchen staff designed a host of new food options for students.  Last week marked the first step in our TASTE OFF process, as staff narrowed more than 40 new food options down to 20 for students to sample and give feedback on this Spring.  In the end, dozens of new food options will be available to students next Fall, and they will have been designed and selected by the very people who consume them.  Brilliant!
Harvesting Joy... And Carrots!
Our commitment to sustainability in Culver City goes well-beyond recycling.  We teach our students in elementary school about our relationship with the Earth, and having Growing Great programs that source real food for our communities.
Sustainability & Innovation:
Farragut 5th Graders Make Wind Turbines!
Ms. Roberts' 5th Grade class at Farragut are always looking to be "cutting edge."  So when the opportunity arose to build model wind turbines and test them at Loyola Marymount University's Wind Lab, how they could resist?  Students applied engineering principles and design thinking to prototype different windblades this week, and will taking a field trip to LMU next week to put their ideas to the test.  What an awesome collaboration!
Chess Champions Honored @ Board Meeting
Student recognition matters.  Nobody knows this better than Culver City's own Chess Tutors.  They recognize the grit and determination of students in one of the most demanding mental exercises of our times: Chess. The results are staggering:  at Lin Howe alone, more than 40 medals were garnered at this year's Grand Gala Championship.  (Including that really big the trophy in the middle!!!)
