Students can now apply for Doyon Foundation scholarships for the fall 2022 semester! Monday, May 16, at 11:59 p.m. AKDT is the deadline to apply for part-time and full-time awards for the fall semester, as well as competitive awards for the 2022 – 2023 academic year. A big thank you to all the students, teachers and schools that participated in our virtual education fair for middle and high school students earlier this month! We had speakers, breakout sessions, a Q&A session and prizes to help students explore careers they are interested in and what it takes to get there. A special thank you to our event co-hosts, Tanana Chiefs Conference and Rural Student Services!

A lifelong Galena resident, Ranch is the owner of Yukon River & Road Transport, a construction and transportation business he started that specializes in heavy equipment and water transportation. Charlotte James

Charlotte James of North Pole, Alaska, is a student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where she is studying applied business management. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in fall 2023, she plans to use her skills and education to help her tribe and community. “The support and financial aid I receive enables me to attend college and to succeed as a nontraditional student,” Charlotte says. Students Encouraged to Apply for Alyeska-Funded Scholarship

Alyeska Pipeline Service Company’s Alaska Native Program has generously awarded $20,000 to Doyon Foundation for scholarships for part-time and full-time students pursuing education in areas that may lead to future careers at Alyeska or TAPS industry-related jobs! Learn Hän with New Doyon Languages Online Course

We are thrilled to announce that a language-learning course focused on Hän is now available in Doyon Languages Online! A very special thank you to course developers Ruth Ridley and John Ritter, with contributions from Ethel Beck, Bertha Ulvi, Adeline Juneby Potts and Tyrese Roberts. Now Accepting Applications for Language Mentor-Apprentice Teams

We are now accepting applications for the first cohort for our new Native language Mentor-Apprentice Program! Applications are due by Friday, April 29, 2022, at 5 p.m. AKDT. The program is open to all interested participants, with an emphasis on Doyon, Limited shareholders who wish to learn one of their region’s 10 Native languages. To get started, go to the App Store, Google Play or Amazon Appstore and search for “Transparent Language Online.” Download and login with your existing Doyon Languages Online username and password. If you don't have an account yet, create one at doyonfoundation.com/dlo before downloading the app. Then, start learning your Native language wherever you are!

STORYTELLER LANGUAGE PROFILE

Effie Kokrine Charter School Language Class

In this Storyteller language profile, we speak with the instructor and students from the Native language class at Effie Kokrine Charter School in Fairbanks. The high school students are learning different Doyon region languages using Doyon Languages Online as well as other language-learning programs. They also spend time giving presentations on the languages, watching and discussing documentaries, and working on various projects. Our April Native Word of the Month features students from the Native language class at Effie Kokrine Charter School introducing themselves and sharing a word or phrase in their Native language. 2022 Morris Thompson Memorial Golf Classic

The 2022 Morris Thompson Memorial Golf Classic will take place on Thursday and Friday, June 23 – 24, at Chena Bend Golf Course on Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks! The event was established in honor of the late Morris Thompson, president and CEO of Doyon, Limited from 1985 – 2000. Event proceeds support the Morris Thompson memorial scholarship fund, which has awarded $583,680 to 221 students since inception. Foundation Finalizes Strategic Plans for the Future

The Doyon Foundation staff and board of directors recently finalized a set of strategic plans that will guide the future growth and success of the organization. The overarching strategic plan details the Foundation’s 20-year goals and includes detailed goals and action items for year one, year three and year five.
