GRATITUDE CORNER
Maiya Anderson
Maiya Anderson, of Nikiski, Alaska, is a first-generation college student studying elementary education at Brigham Young University, while also working as a paraprofessional at an elementary school. “I love it! I recently found my love of teaching. One of my favorite aspects of teaching is making a connection with the students and helping them to understand concepts that they have a hard time with,” Maiya shared.
In addition to her academics and career, Maiya also recently got married! “In the first couple months of our marriage, we were struggling to pay rent and afford groceries. I am incredibly and forever grateful that my university tuition was taken care of, and that I did not have to overwork myself or go into debt to pay for tuition.”

Introducing Doyon Languages Education
We were so pleased by the response from individuals interested in participating in our newest language project! Previously called DLO in the Classroom, we have rebranded the program as Doyon Languages Education. This new name highlights that language learning happens in and outside of the traditional classroom, both for students and teachers. We look forward to announcing the program’s first teacher cohort in March. Learn more and watch for updates: doyonfoundation.com/dle. •

MAP Hosts Quarterly Gathering
Teams from our first Mentor Apprentice Program cohort gathered in late February to share and celebrate six months of language apprenticeship. Participants discussed how they have involved family and friends in the journey so far, and brainstormed how to contribute to their language communities in the next four months. Guest speaker, Dewey Kk’ołeyo Hoffman, shared his experience with language apprenticeship and using Denaakk’e at home. We are so thankful for everyone’s ideas and supportive words, and can’t wait to meet in person again in June!
