BROWN COUNTY STATE PARK

Join us for a relaxing time of fun and fellowship with your fellow Hoosier-Buell Chapter YMCA Alumni at the Abe Martin Lodge in Nashville, Indiana. Nashville is about one hour south of Indianapolis and is well-known for its wide variety of shopping venues and  entertainment. Nashville embraces Brown County State Park, Indiana’s largest state park.      

HERE'S THE SCHEDULE

Thursday, May 8    

 

1 p.m.   Welcome, Intros and Ice Breaker

 

2 p.m.   Business Meeting with reports on membership, budget, National Service Project, Constitution & By-Laws, plans for Fall Gathering in Michigan and More 

 

3 p.m.  Nashville Scavenger Hunt

 

4:30 p.m. Hard Truth Distilling Co. with meal option. This 325-Acre Distillery Complex includes many tour choices and a very good restaurant with various spirits/cocktails. Menu includes BBQ Rib Eye Pork Chops, Chicken, Salmon, Fish & Chips, and Meatloaf. Entrees are $20 to $27, and hand-held sandwiches are $16 to $18.

 

7:30 p.m. Social Hour—Fun and games/cards back at the Lodge

 

Friday, May 9            

 

9 a.m.  Breakfast on your own at the Lodge  

 

10:15 a.m.  Mary Tikalsky, World Service Director joins us via Zoom along with Han-Lee to discuss Global Initiatives.

 

11:30 a.m. Lunch on your own     

 

1 p.m.  Suzanne McCormick, President and CEO of the YMCA of the USA, will be present via a video sharing information about the Y movement. Kim Robinson, CEO of the Brown YMCA, and Wade Hampton, CEO of the Indiana Alliance of YMCAs, will share their reflection on the impact of our

National Y Direction. This part of the meeting will be held at the Brown

County YMCA.

 

3 p.m. Shopping in Nashville and tour Brown County State Park.  

 

Dinner at your leisure.

 

8 p.m.   Neil Diamond Experience at the Brown County Music Center.

Robert Neary,TV and film star, performs an unforgettable tribute to Neil Diamond’s hits -- Cracklin' Rose, Sweet Caroline and many more in

this two-hour performance. Balcony seating $31.50 per person. 

                         

Register with Terry Jones by March 31, 2025. This concert will be sold out.

Reserve your room for May 7 and May 8 at the Abe Martin Lodge by April 11 and get a 25 percent discount for two nights. Online registration does not include the discount. Check-in time for the lodge is 4 p.m.

The total room cost for Wed/Thur is $285.56.

One night room fee is $180.

Let us know you are attending the event by April 11, and you will get a buy-one-get-one-free breakfast in the lodge on Friday morning, paid for by the chapter.

WE REMEMBER

ROY GILLIOM

1937-2025

Roy Dale Gilliom of Fort Wayne, Indiana left this earth on January 9, 2025 following complications form an acute spinal injury. He was 98. 


Roy graduated from Bluffton College in Bluffton, Ohio. He served in the U.S. army during World War II. He married his college sweetheart, Mary Burkholder in 1952 and they honeymooned at a YMCA camp.  He worked at Ys in Saginaw, Port Huron, MI and was Executive Director for the Metro Y in Fort Wayne YMCA until his retirement. 


He is survived by Mary, his wife and five children: Deborah, Todd, Eric, Lisa and Nancy Gilliom along with nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Please consider a memorial gift to YMCA World Service in Roy's memory.

LYNNE SCHLAGEL

1935-2025

Lyn left us Jan. 19, 2025 and is survived by his wife, Penny and sons, Jeff, Chris and Jon and six grandchildren. He was the program director at the Fort Wayne Central YMCA and Director of the Fitness Center at Lincoln National Life. Please consider a memorial to the Fort Wayne Central YMCA in his honor.

Oct. 20-Nov. 3, 2025:

Ancient Adriatic Treasures cruise on Viking Ocean's newest ship. Hosts: YMCA Alumni Communications Team Peggi Simmons and Craig Altschul.


June 5-12, 2026:

Alaska: The Last Frontier ocean cruise on Celebrity Edge. Hosts: Weatherford Chapter's Jean and Bert Bock.
