First United Sunday Update March 21, 2021

Today's Sunday Morning Update Our morning began at 8:30 with the latest weekly gathering of our Adult Zoom Sunday School Class. (*Please note that this class will not meet next Sunday due to our Palm Sunday "Parking Lot Processional at 9:15am.) At 9:45, our Worship Service focused on the scripture readings Jeremiah 31:31-34 and John 12:20-33 (click on links to read verses). We discovered why being a Christian offers a solution to despair and found out how our Lord, Jesus Christ, has already claimed the victory for us in every circumstance and situation! At 11am, our CORE/JAM Youth Groups gathered downstairs in the Middle High Room for their latest session together. Youth Groups meet on the 1st & 3rd Sundays each month. Sunday School Classes for all ages meet on the 2nd & 4th Sundays and will return next Sunday at 11am.

Weekly Devotions (from this week's "Taking Faith Home") Read: Jeremiah 31:31-34 Jeremiah is speaking to a people who are either in exile in Babylon or about to be conquered and sent to Babylon. The northern kingdom of Israel had already fallen to the Assyrians well over a hundred years before. Now the southern kingdom of Judah is doomed. The people have been unfaithful and God’s promises to Abraham, Moses, and David seem to have come to naught. But Jeremiah prophesies, “Not so.” God promises to find a new way, a new covenant. This passage is about God’s people only because it is about the God who continues to claim them. God will not give up on the people God loves. It is the very nature and character of God not to give up on us. God finds a way by having a new covenant, a new start. What God ordains will happen: we shall be God’s people and God will be our God. We are not there yet. We are people of the new covenant, but the prophesy has not happened completely. We still need to be taught, but the day is coming that God’s promise will be fulfilled. How do you learn about faith in Christ? Prayer God of the new covenant, give us faith to trust in your promises and courage to walk in your ways through Jesus Christ, the one who came to set us free. Amen.

Remembering Barb LeMense A Celebration of Life for Barb LeMense has been announced by Bonnie, her sister, for this afternoon (3/21) from 1-3pm at the Ashwaubenon Community Center. A brief Prayer Service and a Sharing of Memories will take place at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds will be used to benefit Barb’s favorite organizations. (Social distancing and face masks are required.)

Welcome Debbie! We're excited to announce a new addition to the F.U.P.C. team! Debbie Ortiz is our new church Administrative Assistant working in the office Monday through Thursday. She comes to us with a Bachelors in Public Administration from U.W.G.B. and many years of customer service experience. Debbie has one daughter, Abby, and has lived in the De Pere area most of her life (except for a brief stint in New Jersey). She belongs to St. John's Lutheran Church in West De Pere. In her free time, Debbie likes to read and play bingo.
