It is the final two weeks of our Annual Fund Drive and
our school is only at 60% participation
. We need YOUR help to ensure we do not have to cut critical positions of support staff and academic supplements that are vital to our children's educational experience.
If we cannot raise the necessary money to fund these things, our children are the ones who will be directly affected!
Unlike some states in which your property taxes go directly to your school, in CA those taxes are sent to the State. The State then disperses the funds based on financial need. As you can imagine, LVUSD gets very little funding from the State. This means the individual schools get very little funding from the school district.
The School District pays for the following: teachers, utilities and building improvements.
The individual schools are left to fund anything else they want.
Here is a list of what is funded by AFD donations: classroom supplies, crossing guards, classroom and yard aides, PE teacher, computer teacher, reading specialist, librarian, art specialist, music, drama, iPads/laptops/printers, library supplies and books, software, Scholastic subscriptions, assemblies, emergency supplies, Movie Night, hydration stations (water fountains), paper, ink cartridges, PE supplies, and so much more......
In all, the PFA must raise $400,000 to fund everything made available to the students at Bay Laurel.
It costs
$730 PER STUDENT
to supply all the things listed above. The PFA asks for $600 per student and understands not everyone is able to contribute at that level. Whatever you can give is very much appreciated.
If you are unable to give at this time, please just return the form with your child's name on it so the class can reach 100% participation and qualify for the special activity with Ms. Cortina.
If the funds are not raised, the only option is to CUT expenses. You can see that your donations, no matter the amount, are greatly needed in order to continue to provide these things to the kids.
