What's New in the New Year?

President's Message
Happy 2019! And of course, happy three months of crossing out the 8 every time you write the date! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and the New Year festivities with your friends and loved ones and are ready to make the most of this brand-new year. The beginning of every year we at BOMA Greater Tampa Bay talk to our membership about joining committees, and this year is no different. Do you have ideas on what could make our organization better? Do you have thoughts of education series’ that you would really like to have? Then come join us! We cannot be who we are without our members and committees, so please visit the Committee page to review each committee’s purpose and at our January luncheon on January 23 rd , each chair will be introduced and will be excited to give you all the information you need.

Are you still working on your “New Year, New You” list? Are you looking for ideas to make you better and help you grow? Well consider continuing your education and adding a few letters next to your name. We are hosting an array of courses this year that will jump-start your designation track. The very first course will be January 30 th – February 1 st and is the Asset Management Course . Register now!

Make sure everyone double checks their sales tax billings! Effective January 1 st , the state level sales tax for commercial rental payments was reduced to 5.7% from 5.8%. However, if your property is in Hillsborough county, the county tax was increased to 2.5%; therefore, your sales tax on rent is now 8.2%. BOMA is continuing to push the state to further reduce the state level sales tax and to hopefully eliminate the tax all together. We can use all the help we can get to make the Legislators understand how important this elimination is. Be on the lookout for our annual Advocacy Day/Tally Day where all the Florida local BOMA associations will head to the hill and meet face to face with our legislators. It is scheduled for April 9th in Tallahassee, FL.

Don’t forget to renew your membership! To remain active, your membership dues must be received by March 15 th . You don’t want to miss what we have planned for this year! Renewing is easy! Please go to the Log In section of our website (bomagtb.org) and sign in. Should you have any questions or problems, please see the screenshot below or contact our Executive Director, Melanie Schrul .

I can’t wait to see you all soon. Cheers to 2019!

Our website allows our members to be self sufficient, for the most part. You can pay on-line, renew your dues and even print invoices and receipts.

As shown in the first screenshot, login and go to View My Order History to see if you've registered for an event, paid for an event or owe money. If you click the "open" (not paid) order, you can print your invoice or pay on-line. Same for member dues, login and click Member Dues and renew and pay. It's that easy.

The second screenshot shows that you can add all our events to your Outlook calendar. Click on events, select the event you want, click on Add to Calendar. Don't forget to register though, this feature doesn't register you to attend, it just adds it to your calendar.
