President's Message
Happy summer! I hope everyone is enjoying some well-deserved time off. Several of us have just returned from the 2019 BOMA International Conference in Salt Lake City – where we had great education sessions, learned to always “Be You” and ensure your “off stage” is just as good as your “on stage” with Doug Lipp, the former Head of Training for Disney University and Peter Merrett, Founder of The House of Wonderful, and of course finishing the conference with the International TOBY Awards. During the Board of Governors meeting, I had the honor of watching our very own Melanie Schrul be sworn in to the BOMA International Executive Committee. Please join me in congratulating her!

I was able to join a new International task force meeting on BOMA and Philanthropy and the importance of it on both an International level as well as a local level. Listening to this important topic being discussed in its infancy at the international level made me that much prouder of BOMA Greater Tampa Bay and the community events we are doing this year. The most recent event at the Ronald McDonald Houses in Pinellas County were quite the success! We have heard such wonderful feedback from both the staff at the houses as well as our members who were able to participate. A special shout out to Nichole Tenderholt with Lowe’s Commercial Painting who was an intricate part of bringing this together. Stay tuned for our next outreach event with Goodwill!

I hope to see you all at our July luncheon where we will get a transportation update from Beth Alden, the executive director for the Hillsborough Metropolitan Planning Organization for Transportation. It will most definitely be informative! Keep cool everyone!

The Sustainability Committee would like to thank all of you who participated in our Spring Clothing Drive for Metropolitan Ministries. We collected 190 -55 gallon trash bags, 35 small bags and 3 boxes of clothing.

We would also like to thank all those who volunteered and participated in our Beach Clean up this past April. We had approximately 20 members attend. We made a big impact cleaning up lots of glass, plastic and Styrofoam from the waterways along the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

Nice Work!
Governor Ron DeSantis signed a law that will reduce the tax on commercial leases in Florida.

House Bill 7123, known as the business rent tax, lowers the commercial lease tax by 0.2 percent to 5.5 percent.
