Smile Cookie

That's a wrap!

A big thank you to all the incredible volunteers who helped make this year’s Smile Cookie campaign such a sweet success!

From decorating cookies to greeting customers with warm smiles, your time and energy made a real difference.

Your support helped raise funds and awareness for Caledon Meals on Wheels, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Thank you for spreading joy—one cookie at a time!

Bridging The Gap

We’re excited to kick off Bridging the Gap, our new intergenerational storytelling program! This initiative brings together youth and older adults to share stories, build connections, and learn from one another. Stay tuned for inspiring moments and meaningful conversations!

Tech Help

We're planning to host tech support workshops for clients.

We’re also looking for a volunteer “Tech Buddy” to help seniors with their devices — let us know if you're interested!

Volunteer Spotlight: Carol

I'm Carol from Caledon. I work at the Orangeville Public Library and love interacting with our community. Volunteering with CMOW is an extension of what I enjoy about my job.

I met my husband in grade 7 and used to deliver the local paper to his house (his mom would give me extra tips). Together we have lived in a few European countries as well as the US. Our daughter was born in France and our son in Canada, but both were fortunate to experience living abroad with us. It's no surprise that we all still enjoy travelling.

I volunteered at the food bank for almost ten years before I began working at the library and I always thought I might like to return as a volunteer in my retirement. When I noticed CMOW looking for volunteers I decided to sign up pre-retirement and see if it was a good fit. I haven't been on board yet for quite a year but appreciate those of you who have been delivering for many years!

If you ever see me at the library, come say hi!

Improving Accessibility

Thank you for all that you do to support our community! We wanted to share some updates on how we’re working to make our programs more accessible for the people we serve.

Earlier this year, we asked our service users for feedback on accessibility across our programs — Meals on Wheels, Friendly Visiting, and Senior Wellness. Overall, satisfaction was high, but we learned a lot about how we can improve.

Here’s what we’re working on, and where you might play a part:

Transportation

  • We’re exploring ways to support clients with limited mobility, including potential virtual programs.
  • We will explore how we may work with CCS to improve transportation access.

Facilities

  • We're advocating for better snow removal and accessibility improvements in buildings.
  • Activity space setups are being reviewed to enhance visibility and comfort.

Communication

  • Clients can now choose how they'd like to receive info (phone, mail, or email).
  • Printed and translated materials will be made more available.

Outreach

  • We’re exploring new ways to stay in touch with clients, including town halls and bilingual volunteer support.
  • Meals on Wheels
  • We’re reminding clients about safe reheating to prevent melted containers and injuries.

New Volunteer Training

  • New volunteers will now receive accessibility and AODA training during onboarding, helping us provide even better support to everyone.
  • We’re proud to be making these improvements together — if you have ideas or want to get more involved in these initiatives, we’d love to hear from you!
