It's a great day to quit (or never start).

Why a Minimum Unit Price Policy?

For the past several months members of AC4C have been participating with 13 other coalitions and alcohol policy experts from across the country in a Policy Academy. AC4C was chosen for the academy with the selected policy of Minimum Unit Pricing on wholesale spirits. This policy had nearly been implemented in Iowa in 2020 as part of an effort to decrease the escalating number of alcohol-involved deaths, but has not been revisited as a state policy since. The population-based strategy has shown very promising research data in reducing alcohol-related harms from excessive drinking, just as other price strategies like increasing alcohol excise taxes has.

The Alcohol Action Team and Policy Workgroup members gave input to the AC4C members involved in the Policy Academy, who worked with their Academy coaches to create the Issue Brief below.

The words and images are small in the pictures above. To read the issue brief in full click HERE. Link to sources in the brief can be found HERE. This document will soon be downloadable, sent out to members and printed for sharing in-person.

"August 31 is recognized as International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose, remember those we have lost to an overdose, acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind, and renew our commitment to end overdose and related harms.

The campaign raises awareness of overdose, which is one of the world’s worst public health crises and stimulates action and discussion about evidence-based overdose prevention and drug policy." To learn more about IOAD at the DEA website click HERE. #EndOverdose
