Membership Renewal is underway, a number of companies have renewed and a brochure has been sent to potential new members.

Membership fees can be paid on the membership site with credit card through our Stripe account, via invoice if you selected that option or by e-transfer to accounting@ecasask.ca.

ECAS Website Refresh

ECAS Website Refresh is complete and updates are underway. The site was built to accommodate a number of photos that cycle through the top banner. We need photos!  Please send photos of work you are proud of and we can include relevant photos on our website.

If there is something you would like to see added to the site, please let us know.

ECAS Training Opportunities

A focus this year will be to provide more training opportunities for our members. We currently have invested in a subscription with Danatec to offer safety training including WHMIS, Arc Flash, Fall Protection Awareness, LOTO Awareness. Log on through our website.

We also have an agreement with St John’s Ambulance to offer First Aid training, in class and blended. Details are on our website.

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP); Impact on 2023 tax form reporting

To support the new Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), employers have a new tax reporting obligation to confirm whether an employee, former employee, their spouse and dependents was eligible, on December 31st of the tax reporting year, to access dental insurance or dental coverage of any kind, including a health care spending or wellness account.  

ECAS Scholarships

ECAS provides scholarships to the top scoring apprentice in level 3 and level 4 technical training. Congratulations to this years scholarship recipients!

Awards were presented by ECAS Executive Director Drew Tiefenbach at the annual Apprenticeship Celebration Dinner November 3, 

Luke Willcox (Synergy Electric Corporation) was awarded the 2023 scholarship for top marks in Level 3 technical training. 

Brett Snelling ( Alliance Energy Ltd.) was awarded the 2023 scholarship for top marks in level 4 technical training.

MCAS extends this training opportunity to ECAS members. Registration extended to January 26, 2024

TSASK Updates

The Unified Code Act implementation reported on in the last newsletter has been paused to accommodate feedback received from the draft sent out to stakeholders.

ECAS is a stakeholder and we have been included in the consultation and information loop.

The 2024 Canadian Electrical Codebook is expected to be in print early 2024. TSASK will again be offering code update seminars in major centres as well as online. ECAS members enrolled in TSASK’s Registered Contractor Program are required to have all journeypersons complete this training. Please ensure online participants download a copy of the completion certificate for audit purposes.

Online Resources for Apprentices

Apprentice success is in everyone's best interest. Due to the varied aspects of our trade, some apprentices struggle with technical training, often exposed to new concepts without field experience for re-enforcement.

ECAS is promoting additional training through SaskPolytech to help apprentices succeed.

This Online Resource does not replace traditional technical training offered through SATCC. An example of the content and current pricing is “here”. Prices listed are subject to change.
