Department Updates
Help Wanted!
We are still seeking a permanent director and NOW are also in need of a part-time Recreation Assistant.

The Director will be responsible for planning, directing, and managing the County's parks and recreational budget, programs and staff.

The Recreation Assistant position is a year-round part-time as-needed position, with a flexible schedule. This person will be in charge of our social media and newsletter outreach and will assist with general department duties such as answering phones, greeting the public, and taking care of the facilities.

For more information, contact recreation@polknc.org.

To apply, please fill out a Polk County Employment application HERE! and return to the County Manager's office.

Help us spread the word about these openings so we can be the best department we can be!

Once these positions are filled, Laura will become the new Outdoor Programs Coordinator. Since the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg has partnered with us to run most of our programming, we can turn our focus to the great opportunities offered to us by the parks in the county! Stay tuned for information on hikes, campfire programs, outdoor education opportunities, and more!
Sports Updates
Fall Sports
Fall Baseball and Softball
Practices have begun and games start on September 14!

Soccer teams have been selected and practices will be starting this week!

Volleyball
Registration has been extended through Sunday! After that, late registrants will be added to a waitlist and a spot on a team will not be guaranteed. PLEASE call, email, or stop by if you are having issues using the YMCA website. Since we have partnered with the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg, they are running the season and you need to register here: on the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg website. Games and practices will still be in Polk County. Scholarships are available.

Trails Updates
TRAIL OPEN
Our trail at the Recreation Complex is OPEN! The lower loop is for beginners, and the upper loop is for more advanced riders. Dogs are not allowed on the trail; please use our other paths at the Recreation Complex or Laughter Pond for dog walking. This will minimize trail conflicts and make everyone's experiences as enjoyable as possible.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
If you would like to help us with trail work, please contact recreation@polknc.org and we will let you know when workdays are scheduled. If you feel safer working on your own, feel free to walk a trail, picking up trash and moving small branches from the trails. Please don't cut any branches; if a trail needs more attention, email us and we will take care of it or bring it to that trail manager's attention.

TRAILS COMMITTEE MEETING
Every month, community stakeholders meet to share updates about area trails. The meetings are open to the public and are online. Send us your questions and updates ahead of time if you can't make it!

MIND YOUR MANNERS
Most trails, if they are open, may not have public facilities that are open, so check ahead of time. If you are sick, PLEASE stay home. If a trail is crowded, please travel to a different spot so you can practice social distancing. Other trail courtesies also still apply: keep dogs on-leash, take your trash with you, etc. Thanks for doing your part!

FOR MORE INFORMATION
Laura will now be overseeing all trail maintenance. Please contact her with questions or concerns: recreation@polknc.org
