HPBA Hearth Appliance Section Meetings at HPBExpo
Wednesday, March 11 | 8:00 am | Room 272 of the Convention Center
Both HPBA Hearth Manufacturer Sections (Solid Fuel and Gas) will hold meetings at the 2020 HPBExpo. Rather than having a separate in-person meeting of the Sections in the spring, the traditional Wednesday morning briefing for manufacturers will be transformed into brief, formal Section meetings. The main item up for discussion will be EPA’s Federal Reference Method cordwood test method development.
At 8:00 am the Solid Fuel Hearth Appliance Section will receive an update on efforts to limit or eliminate gas lines to new homes or businesses. The section will also review a proposal requested at a November Section meeting for a new staff person to focus on gas bans and electrification issues. The Gas Hearth Appliance Section will convene at 9:20 am, also in Room 272. Section meetings are open to all manufacturing members who participate in that category. If you have any questions about the meetings, please contact
Ryan Carroll

Have Questions About the NSPS? Join Us for a Class at Expo
Wednesday, March 11 | 11:00 am | Room 291/292 of the Convention Center
Retailers, distributors, and manufacturers’ representatives: Join us for a review of what is required by the upcoming NSPS going into effect on May 15, 2020. Led by HPBA’s Senior Manager – Government Affairs, Rachel Feinstein, this meeting will be a full hour dedicated to reviewing what’s required today and after May 15, 2020. We’ll answer any and all questions that you have.
Do you know whether you can install a Step 1 stove after the May 15, 2020 effective date if it was sold before the deadline? What are the rules for donating a stove to a nonprofit organization? Can you sell used stoves after the effective date?
If you aren’t sure of the answers to these questions, this is a must-attend. If you sell wood- or pellet-burning products, your business may depend on you being familiar with this law. An education passport or education purchase is required to attend this class. [

American Keeper of the Flame Award
During the week of February 10, HPBA presented two outstanding members of Congress with our inaugural American Keeper of the Flame Awards. This year’s awardees were Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Representative Collin Peterson (D-MN). Both have shown extraordinary commitment to the hearth industry and its future success. In the past few years, each introduced legislation that would have extended the effective date of the NSPS Step 2 (if enacted) and both have made numerous outreach attempts to regulatory agencies on behalf of the industry. In the future, this award will be given to one Senator and one Representative each session of Congress (every two years) who have gone above and beyond to help the hearth and/or barbecue industry.
