ACADEMY BRIEFING

September 6 and September 8 2022

Intake Days

New students arrived on campus on Tuesday, Sep 6 to receive their kit, find their bunks, and begin the recruit course, which is an orientation course that helps the students learn about the Academy including mess hall etiquette, the names and locations of buildings, and the rank structure. Students were able to join their parents for lunch and a final goodbye before they enjoyed a casual softball game to allow them to meet other students in a more relaxed environment. Thursday, when our returning students arrived, the day looked very similar as students settled in, turned in outgrown uniforms for new kit, talked with teachers and rekindled friendships.

Clubs

Currently much of the time normally set aside for extra-curricular clubs is being utilized for Fall Exercise training, although some clubs did get underway this week with students facing off over the chess board; perfecting their movements in martial arts, and finding some rhythm in music club.

Fall Exercise Training

The first week of October, just prior to the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday, the entire Academy takes part in the Fall Exercise. The three-day, 70 km hike through Niagara's trails, is a challenge for all who attempt it, both physically and mentally. The hike teaches students how to overcome obstacles, be resilient and never give up, and that they are a team that can accomplish anything if they work together and support each other. To prepare for the hike staff and students will be spending a lot of time training.

Students have been out on campus and the surrounding roads hiking, running, and conditioning themselves for the exercise.

Premier Experience

Students in A Coy had a unique experience to start the school year off. On Saturday, September 10 the A Coy students travelled to Tim Horton's Field in Hamilton for the Forge FC game in the Canadian Premier League. Our boys represented the Academy well, escorting players onto the field and then playing an exhibition game during half time. The boys enjoyed watching Forge defeat Calvary 2-1 and hanging with Sparx.
