Pace University SBDC Newsletter - January 2018
KIVA Partnership Focus
The Pace University SBDC is happy to partner with Kiva , an innovative crowd-funding platform that provides 0% interest loans of up to $10,000 to new and growing small businesses. Kiva loans provide access to capital helping small businesses who struggle to secure financing because they are start-ups, have poor or limited credit history, and/or lack collateral. Additionally, Kiva's online platform provides  marketing exposure to their 1.5 million members and connections to potential customers.

As a Kiva trustee, the Pace SBDC endorsed a loan to our client  Cocotu. The company r aised $10,000 from 87 Kiva lenders to support the expansion of the coffee business, and in turn provided  opportunities for socially responsible farmers in Latin America.

Pace's SBDC helped Storyscape's founder develop financial projections, establish a project budget and business plan, and craft her "pitch" to secure funding for a literary arts web series. The business has formally launched and won a $50,000 pitch competition.

The Pace SBDC is excited to announce the launch of our revamped Resources page on our website, which details key small business programs and services, as well as links for further information. Whether it be financing, market research, government procurement, certification, or international trade, our resources page should be bookmarked on your web browser.
The New York State Paid Family Leave Program  launched on January 1, 2018, and provides most employees who work in New York State with job-protected, paid leave to bond with a new child, to care for a loved one with a serious health condition, or to help relieve family pressures when someone is called to active military service. Funded by employee payroll contributions, paid family leave benefits include paid time off for 8 weeks in 2018, increasing to 12 weeks by 2021; job protection upon return from paid family leave; and continuation of health insurance while out on paid family leave.
