The Rotary Foundation

Russ Jones, District 6400 Rotary Foundation Committee Chair

I am proud to serve as the District Rotary Foundation Committee Chair for 2025-26. The district Rotary Foundation committee is the connection between The Rotary Foundation, members, and the public. Our role is to educate clubs about the Foundation, encourage and inspire them to support its programs and educate clubs about Rotary grant programs for their projects. The 2025-26 committee organization chart can be viewed HERE

Super District really lived up to our reputation in 2024-25 thanks to the efforts of all the clubs, members and the committee. Your support in Annual giving and Polio Plus was tremendous. Members also responded to the emphasis on giving to the Endowment Fund with unprecedented levels of giving. We will be releasing the final numbers soon and recognizing members and clubs later this fall.

Now is time to prepare for the coming year. Setting goals is the key to a fundraising success. I hope you will consider budgeting a personal giving goal for the Rotary foundation. Club Presidents and Rotary Foundation Chairs must enter their club’s fundraising goals in Rotary Club Central.

Successful projects take planning and next spring’s May deadline for district grant application will be here sooner than you think. Too many clubs are leaving money on the table; 22 clubs did not apply for money to support their projects in 2025-26! Start planning now your District grant project for 2026-27.

Your District Rotary Foundation Committee is here to support your success.  You can email at rotary.russmjones@gmail.com with your questions or comments.

Why are members so important to Rotary?

Rotary International is a global network of volunteers dedicated to addressing the world's most persistent issues, and its members are crucial to its ability to make a positive impact locally and internationally.

Here's why members are so important to Rotary:

  • Driving Service Projects: Members are the hands, hearts, and minds behind Rotary's numerous service projects. Whether it's feeding the hungry, tutoring children, providing clean water, or supporting education, it's the members who actively participate & contribute their time, talents, and resources to make these initiatives a reality.
  • Strengthening Local Communities: Rotary clubs are rooted in local communities, and the members bring an intimate understanding of local needs & challenges.
  • Building a Global Network: With over 1.4 million members in over 200 countries, Rotary fosters a powerful global network of individuals united by the ideal of service. This network enables collaboration on international projects, like the effort to eradicate polio, promotes international understanding & peace.
  • Providing Expertise and Resources: Members are often leaders in their professions and communities, bringing valuable skills, knowledge, and experience to the organization.

In essence, Rotary is powered by its members. Their collective dedication, diverse skills, and shared values are what enable Rotary to fulfill its mission of "Service Above Self" and create lasting change in the world.

New members bring fresh perspectives, energy, and leadership, ensuring the continued growth and vitality of the organization. This steady influx of new members is essential to sustain Rotary's mission and adapt to changing global needs.

Promoting Ethical Standards: Rotarians are expected to uphold high ethical standards, guided by the Four-Way Test. This shared commitment to integrity helps foster trust and collaboration within the organization and the wider community.

Building Lasting Friendships and Fellowship: Rotary's founding principles included fellowship and friendship, and these remain key aspects of membership today. Members enjoy camaraderie and build strong, lasting relationships with like-minded individuals who share a passion for service.

New clubs are crucial to the vitality and growth of Rotary for several key reasons:

Expanded Reach and Impact: New clubs extend Rotary's ability to serve communities and address needs in new areas or among different groups of people.

Diverse Perspectives and Ideas: They bring in new members with fresh perspectives, energy, and ideas, leading to innovative projects and solutions for both local and global challenges.

Leadership Opportunities: Starting a new club provides excellent leadership development opportunities for members who might not otherwise have the chance to serve in leadership positions within existing clubs

Essentially, new clubs are vital for Rotary to continue its mission of service, adapt to changing needs, and attract and retain engaged members who are dedicated to making a positive difference in the world.
