HOW CAN YOU MUMBLE

We tend to think of congregational singing as something between God and us, and it is. But in this short reflection, Tim Challies makes the case that singing is also one of the most selfless things we do on a Sunday.

Drawing on Colossians 3:16, he reminds us that we don't only sing upward to the Lord; we sing outward for one another. For the grieving couple a few rows ahead who have been left almost mute by loss, for the friend whose faith is wavering, and for the visitor who doesn't yet have the words. Your voice carries truth their hearts need to hear. It's a four-minute read and a good nudge that the person next to you may need your singing more than you know.

Serve the Body: Complete the NEW Skills & Interests Survey

God has given every believer at least one spiritual gift to build up the body of Christ, and the church flourishes when each member is actively serving.

To help our pastors, elders, deacons, and ministry leaders connect you with meaningful ways to serve, we're asking everyone to complete our newly updated Cornerstone Skills and Interests Survey. Whether your gifts are visible or behind the scenes, practical or relational, every act of service strengthens Christ's body.

It only takes a few minutes: Go to the form

Thank you for your willingness to serve Christ and your church family!

Film Screening: American Gospel: Spirit & Fire

Sunday, June 28, 6 PM, at Cornerstone Community Church

You're invited to a special evening at Cornerstone: a screening of a new episode from American Gospel: Spirit & Fire, the upcoming third installment in filmmaker Brandon Kimber's American Gospel documentary series. Many in our church family will remember that we hosted the first film, American Gospel: Christ Alone, back in 2019. Brandon, a Cleveland-area filmmaker, is currently finishing this latest series.

The episode, "Your Will Be Done (Part 1): What Have You Done?", wrestles with a hard and important question: is a God who causes or allows sickness an "abuser" and the God of a "different gospel"? It examines God's sovereignty over suffering in contrast to the false teaching of the Word of Faith and New Apostolic Reformation movements. The episode also features our own Pastor Paul Tautges. The runtime is about 1 hour 22 minutes.

Stay afterward for a live Q&A. We'll be joined by filmmaker Brandon Kimber along with Pastor Nahum O'Brien and his wife Arin, whose story is featured in the episode: Nahum was diagnosed with cancer soon after the couple arrived in Norway as missionaries. They'll share and take your questions.

Childcare will be available for children birth through age 4. Watch for a sign-up in an upcoming email.
