Utah State Bar August eBulletin
It's an Honor to Serve as President of the Utah State Bar
It's always exciting to take on a new role, and as I face the upcoming year as the 2019-2020 Bar president, my mind is full of gratitude.

I feel grateful for all those who have gone before, who have laid the foundation for the great organization of the Utah State Bar. I'm grateful for my mentors, who have taught me not only the nuances of being a good lawyer, but what it takes to be a leader as well.

I'm grateful for the work of the past president, Dickson Burton, and all his hard work, of the sacrifices made by the Bar Commission and all those who donate their time and talents to help the Bar meet the needs of the legal profession.
I know as we face the challenges of the coming year--some easy to see, and some not yet seen--we as a Bar will be equal to those challenges. It's an honor to work in this profession, and to serve as President of the Utah State Bar.
Summer Convention in Park City Breaks Attendance Record
This year, the Bar's Summer Convention was held in Park City. It was a homecoming of sorts, as the convention has largely been held in Sun Valley and out of state in other vacation spots.

A record 556 lawyers and judges joined the plenary and breakout sessions. CLE events included sessions on transactional work, litigation, well-being, the future of our industry, criminal topics as well as civil practice. Keynote sessions included two strong women – Antonia Hernandez, a noted civil rights advocate, and Dr. Astrid Tuminez, President of UVU and an expert on technology and education. Their sessions were well-attended and very well-received.

Portions of the conference were recorded and are available for online for self-study CLE credit. Thanks for the support of the Summer Convention Committee. Don't miss the Fall Forum in November!
