Manufacturing Month Final Thoughts from Executive Director

What a month celebrating manufacturing in Chisago County!

Manufacturing is a dynamic part of Chisago’s economy, being the second largest industry based on the workforce they employ and wages that are paid. While these businesses also pay real estate taxes on their facilities they are able to provide a vital community and a higher quality of life. For these reasons and many more - we celebrate manufacturing through the month of October.

This year, in support of Chisago County manufacturers the Chisago County HRA-EDA hosted two events. The Career Exploration in Manufacturing Event held on October 9th, included student tours of manufacturing facilities along with a hands-on student event at Splitrocks in Wyoming. This event provided networking between a dozen manufacturers and over 170 students, presentations from local business and educational fun with a game of Jeopardy. It has been a privilege to collaborate with like-minded people that believe there is value in introducing students to manufacturing as it is a lucrative career option for students(and adults). This collaboration includes all four school districts, local manufacturers, workforce professionals along with city and county representatives.

The East Central Development Partnership’s Manufacturing Summit was also held in support of manufacturing with networking over breakfast and excellent presentations intended for manufacturers and partners that work with the manufacturing industry. This event also talked about the importance of introducing manufacturing to students and ways that the schools and local manufacturers are able to work together to help resolve workforce issues.

We celebrate the manufacturers for all they do for the economy and our communities. As Bob Kill, CEO and President of Enterprise Minnesota said:

“We don’t just celebrate Manufacturers Month we celebrate them all year long.”
