As September approaches, Chisago County prepares to welcome Hay Days, the largest annual event in the county and a major draw for snowmobile enthusiasts across the region. Hosted by the Sno-Barons Snowmobile Club, Hay Days will take place the second weekend of September at its permanent home in Sunrise Township, just east of North Branch.

Hay Days began in 1966 as a small snowmobile race on a hay-covered track. Over the decades, it has grown into a nationally recognized event featuring grass drag races, swap meets, manufacturer showcases, and more. In 2010, the Sno-Barons purchased land in Sunrise Township, securing a long-term home for the event right here in Chisago County.

The Chisago County HRA-EDA is proud to support Hay Days and grateful to the Sno-Barons for hosting it in our community. The event brings significant economic activity to the region and highlights the welcoming spirit of our county.

The Chisago County Child Care Coalition, created by the HRA-EDA and with support from many other child care partners continue to actively expand child care access in Chisago County.

Through over $150,000 in funding—including $100,000 from Chisago County ARPA funds—the coalition has added 331 new child care slots, retained 45, and created 102 before-and-after school care spots. These efforts directly address the county’s shortage, with over 1,100 children still in need of care.

In addition to funding, the coalition is building a strong support system for providers through mentorship, training events, and outreach. Locations like schools, places of worship, and vacant buildings are being explored for future centers. Marketing efforts, open houses, and vendor booths are helping raise awareness and attract new providers—proving that Chisago County is committed to strengthening its child care infrastructure.

The Chisago County HRA-EDA is pleased to share an exciting opportunity to support regional heritage and environmental stewardship. On Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 1:30 to 4:30 PM, North Woods & Waters of the St. Croix Heritage Area will host Go With the Flow, a scenic and engaging fundraiser event in Taylors Falls.

Guests will enjoy a paddlewheel boat tour through the spectacular St. Croix River Dalles, accompanied by live music from Frank “Anakwad” Montano, a respected flutist and elder of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. The event also features hearty appetizers, a silent auction, and a cash bar onboard.

Proceeds from the event will support North Woods & Waters’ mission to celebrate and preserve the nationally significant cultural, historical, and natural resources of the St. Croix River Watershed—an area that includes Chisago County and plays a vital role in our region’s identity and economy.
