Save the Date: June 21st - The Lindstrom Coffee Pot Will Steam Again!
| |
In Lindstrom, Minnesota, a beloved local landmark—the coffee pot-shaped water tower—is getting a nostalgic upgrade. Originally built in 1908 and transformed into a giant Swedish coffee pot in 1992, the tower has long symbolized the town’s deep Scandinavian roots. The idea to preserve and repurpose the old water tower came from local businesswoman Marlene Smith, who funded its conversion. The tower even impressed Swedish royalty during their 1996 visit, complete with steam rising from its spout. Over time, the steam feature faded, but the community’s affection for the landmark never did.
Now, a group of residents are reviving the steam effect using a fog machine, timed to coincide with the Swedish tradition of Fika—coffee breaks at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Local HVAC business owner Jason Quist is leading the technical effort, funded by sales of miniature tower replicas. The project has reignited community pride and aims to attract visitors to “America’s Little Sweden.” Residents and local business leaders hope the steaming coffee pot will once again become a showstopper, drawing attention to Lindstrom’s unique charm and cultural heritage
