Wyoming Recognized for Excellence in
Age-Friendly Community Development!
The Chisago County HRA-EDA congratulates the City of Wyoming on receiving the 2025 City of Excellence Award from the League of Minnesota Cities. The award, presented in the category of Successful Collaboration Among Local Governments, honors the city’s Age-Friendly Community Garden Project, completed in May 2024.
Located on the M Health Fairview – Wyoming campus, the project was developed to promote food security, intergenerational engagement, and accessible outdoor activity for residents of all ages and abilities. The initiative was made possible through strong partnerships with Age-Friendly Minnesota, Chisago County Public Health SHIP, and M Health Fairview – Wyoming.
The garden expansion included a 60' x 150' fenced area, two wheelchair-accessible beds, and four additional raised beds, all designed with accessibility and inclusion in mind. Planning and implementation involved the Wyoming City Council, city staff, healthcare professionals, and community volunteers. The project secured $25,500 in collaborative grant funding and continues to offer gardening classes and wellness workshops led by local master gardeners and healthcare professionals.
This project stands as a model for how local collaboration can create inclusive, sustainable spaces that enhance community health and quality of life—while also demonstrating the long-term value of investing in age-friendly infrastructure and shared public spaces. The Chisago County HRA-EDA is proud to support and celebrate initiatives like this that strengthen our communities and improve the lives of residents across the county.

| | | | Rush Printing Inc Turns the Page with New Ownership | | |
The Chisago County HRA-EDA is proud to spotlight a new chapter for a long-standing local business—Rush Printing Inc. On May 22, a special gathering brought together past and present owners to celebrate the transition of ownership to Jodi Schintz, who officially took the reins in March.
Jodi purchased the business from Jill Haugrud, who had owned and operated the shop since 2007. Jill, in turn, acquired it from Betty Zupon, who became the owner in 1981 after purchasing it from the original founders, sisters Alice and Charlotte Wilcox, who established Rush Printing in 1978.
With deep roots in the community and a legacy of service, Rush Printing Inc continues to thrive. Jodi brings a strong background in management and customer service, while her husband, Mike, contributes over 30 years of experience in commercial and specialty printing. Together, they are committed to continuing the shop’s tradition of excellence while bringing fresh energy and ideas.

Happy Birthday to the HRA-EDA!
| | |
Chisago County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) and Economic Development Authority (EDA) was established on July 7, 1988. The HRA has played a vital role in community development, ensuring housing stability and redevelopment efforts.
On November 1, 2000, the Board of Commissioners granted the HRA the powers of an Economic Development Authority, expanding its ability to support local businesses, attract investment, and drive economic growth. As we celebrate these key anniversaries, we reflect on the lasting impact of these initiatives and look forward to continued progress in strengthening our community.

A New Tool for Smarter Growth!
| | |
Chisago County has taken a major step forward in understanding and addressing its housing needs with the completion of the 2024 Comprehensive Housing Analysis, conducted by Maxfield Research. This in-depth study provides a clear picture of current housing conditions, future demand, and the types of housing most needed across the county.
This project was made possible through the collaborative efforts of local governments, community leaders, and residents who care deeply about the future of housing in our region. Public meetings, surveys, and data collection efforts played a critical role in shaping the final report. In total, nearly 400 residents participated in the survey, offering valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities facing Chisago County’s housing market
Key findings from the analysis include:
- A projected demand for 4,760 new housing units by 2030
- A strong need for affordable housing options, especially for seniors and first-time homebuyers
- Concerns about rising rents, limited rental availability, and high costs for single-family homes.
- A desire to maintain the county’s rural charm while expanding housing diversity.
The final report is more than just a snapshot—it’s a strategic tool. Local officials and developers can now use this data to guide decisions, respond to development inquiries, and ensure that housing growth aligns with community needs. It also demonstrates that Chisago County is proactively addressing housing challenges and planning for a balanced, inclusive future.
As we move forward, this analysis will serve as a foundation for thoughtful development and policy-making. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, insights, and voices to this important effort.
