Summer 2020
Enable is Open for Business
As the world is learning to live in the "new normal" Enable is no different. On March 18th the Department of Developmental Disabilities closed all day programs in the state of NJ. Our day program consumers were, and still are, currently keeping safe at their group homes. Enable office staff had also worked remotely for several months as NJ sought to flatten the curve. Happily, as of July 6th, with proper protocols in place, our team returned to the office. Our day program consumers have been receiving services out of their group homes since July 20th and we look forward to the day when we can all be together again in person.
Enable GALA Postponed until 2021
After much thought and consideration, Enable's leadership and Board has decided to
cancel our annual gala fundraiser this year. It has been rescheduled for Friday,
April 23, 2021. Please be on the lookout for more information in the coming months.
We thank all of our supporters and hope we can count on your support again next
year. Stay safe.
Mask Wearing Fun
Personalized masks for all our consumers! Thanks to an Enable employee who came to work with a really cool, decorative mask which, was designed by his mother, all of our consumers now have awesome masks. Turns out the employee's mom has an Etsy side business where she creates designer face coverings. With nearly 100 consumers in Enable's program, we decided what a fun and creative way to help our men and women feel more comfortable and excited to wear their masks. Based upon their interests, each consumer chose a design or theme for their personal mask. Here are some of our consumers in their sports themed masks!
Works of Art
The ladies in one of our Mercer County group homes have kept really busy while at home by creating beautiful works of art with the help of Tiesha Anderson, one of Enable's day program staff. Consumers turned their home into a beautiful art gallery working on various projects. D epending on the detail of the work, most took two days to complete. Tiesha really enjoys working with the consumers, not just doing art, but also working on numbers and counting, spelling, and writing skills. She encourages consumers to use words to express how they are feeling that day. Consumers always look forward to their next project.
Tiesha made a laptop for one of the consumers out of cardboard. The consumer loves it! Once a week she gives each staff their paycheck.
ADA Celebrates 30 Years!
On July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law. This historic legislation is celebrating 30 years of protecting and advancing the civil rights of people with disabilities. It recognizes that people with disabilities have the same rights and are entitled to the same opportunities as their fellow citizens without disabilities.

Please take a moment to view this special message from Governor Murphy on the 30th Anniversary of the ADA.

Covid Update
Thank you to the following companies and foundations who have supported Enable with Covid Relief grants to purchase PPE, cleansers and additional household items for our group homes.
We are proud to announce that the due diligence of our staff in taking precautions and following safety protocols has resulted in very few Covid-19 cases among our 89 consumers. And we are even happier to report that currently there are no cases of Covid in any of our 24 group homes.

Patio Party - Help us Raise funds for Covid Expenses
With 24 residential group homes and nearly 100 consumers staying at home during these uncertain times, it is more important than ever to create a home environment that is comfortable and enjoyable. The agency recently purchased gas grills for all of our homes and while we increase outdoor activities, having a patio dining set for the consumers will greatly enhance their quality of life and provide opportunities for additional outside activities, which includes visits from loved ones. All 24 of our homes are in need of outside patio furniture. Please help us raise $20,000 so our consumers can enjoy outdoor experiences during this difficult time. Thank you.
Another way to support our organization is to shop with Amazon Smile and select Enable as your charity.
