District Rotary Foundation Committee Update

Sue Goldsen, Chair

District 6400 – Building The Rotary Foundation’s Future

Whether you are considering making a legacy gift to secure the future of the Rotary Foundation and/or you want to contribute to the annual fund which helps us with our many grants where we do good in our communities and around the world, please join us for our Legacy Dinner event, which will take place on November 21, 2024. Click HERE to purchase a ticket to this event!

Our Keynote speaker at the event will be David LaMotte

David LaMotte is a songwriter, speaker and author. In 2004, David and his wife Deanna founded PEG Partners, a non-profit organization that supports mentoring, education, and artistic expression in Guatemala. LaMotte suspended his music career for two years, beginning in 2008, to pursue his other primary vocation by accepting a Rotary World Peace Fellowship to study International Relations, Peace and Conflict Resolution at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. As part of that study, he also spent time in rural Andhra Pradesh, India working with a Gandhian development organization. We are truly excited that he will be able to join us.

Rotary Foundation Global Grant News

ROTARY FOUNDATION GLOBAL GRANT TO WINDSOR (1918)

Congratulations to the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) on the approval of their global grant application for a project in Tanzania. Michelle White is the primary international contact for a $44,800 grant for a Vocational Training Team (Part 2) to train traditional birth attendants and health care professionals in rural Tanzania. The Team Leader is Windsor (1918) Rotarian Andrea Cassidy, as it was for Part 1 in Fall 2023. They will work with 6 medical professionals from the Tanzanian NGO PANETA to train 118 people who will then be better equipped to work with women giving birth in their communities and facilities. The primary host contact is Timothy Massawe from the Rotary Club of Hai Kilimanjaro. The other two team members are midwives Andrea Robertson, working in Newfoundland, and Tess Walter, working in Ottawa. The training takes place from October 24 - November 9, 2024.

Rotary clubs in D6400 are involved in 38 active grants worth a total of $5,933,988; and there are five more in the draft stage. This is the 9th Vocational Training Team (VTT) Global Grant for D6400 and the 4th sponsored by Windsor (1918). Your contributions to the Annual Fund make this happen.

Huron Township Rotary club fulfilling a need in the community! School Supply and Teacher Appreciation Chairperson, Rotarian, and teacher Kim Rhodes, brought to the attention of the Huron Township Rotary Club that every year, teachers spend approximately $500 or more of their own money to purchase classroom supplies. The Huron Township Rotary initiated the "Teachers Supply Closet" program to reduce this out-of-pocket cost.
