It is not too late to plan an event or fundraiser to celebrate World Polio Day on October 24. World Polio Day is a time for Rotary members and all who want a world free from polio to come together to celebrate our progress in the fight to end polio. If your club is planning an event to support polio eradication, you can get the word out on the district website. Forward the details to Sue Goldsen for publication. For 2024-25, our district members’ Polio Plus donations and fundraising totaled $83,500! Can we do even more this year? Please send all your polio Fundraising activities to sue@goldsen.com so she may post it on the web site and in our newsletter.

Our District Grant spending plan including the 25 club projects has been approved by the Rotary International Foundation. The total grant provides more than $73,000 to fund district club projects. Congratulations to all the clubs participating in the individual and collaborative projects. The entire list is available on the district website.

If you need assistance or have questions regarding foundation fundraising or grants, the District Rotary Foundation Committee is here to help. Feel free to contact us. Our org chart is available on the district website or look us up on DACdb.

September Rotary theme

The Rotary theme for September is Basic Education and Literacy. This aligns with one of Rotary's six areas of focus and emphasizes the importance of reading and writing for individual and community development.

ROTARY’S STRENGTHS

Rotary members are passionate about supporting the basic education and literacy area of focus at the club level in their local communities. They can use the skills and expertise of

people in the Basic Education and Literacy Rotary Action Group and in The Rotary Foundation Cadre of Technical Advisers.

OPPORTUNITIES

We can improve our work in basic education and literacy and make long-lasting change by:

• Implementing projects that are based on evidence

• Shifting the focus of service projects toward teaching and learning in addition to delivering

materials like desks or books

STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES

Rotary’s basic education and literacy strategy seeks to:

• Improve our monitoring and evaluation to better measure the results of our projects

• Invest in priority programming projects

• Expand our focus on gender and equity within education

• Raise awareness of our work and results in the global education sector
