October 6: Timberline High School's select choir, "Encore", submitted an audition recording this summer, and was selected to perform at the Idaho ACDA (American Choral Director Association) Fall In-service Conference. The performance will be held on Saturday, October 6th, at 11:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Rockies, Boise. The performance is open to the public.  

October 8: Boise School Board meeting, 6 p.m., District Services Center, 8169 W. Victory Rd., Boise. Agenda items include Presentation of Red Apple Award to Shirley Bryant, 4th grade teacher, Amity Elementary School; Presentation of Golden Apple Award to Lizette Montes, behavior support specialist, Grace Jordan Elementary School; Bob Wand Memorial Art Presentation to Willow Rohweder, 3rd grade student, Longfellow Elementary School; Selection and Installation of New Trustee; and 2019-20 School Calendar. October 12: Grand Opening Ceremony for the new Idaho State Museum, 610 Julia Davis Dr., Boise, 9 a.m. As part of the ceremony, students from Adams Elementary School will perform Idaho's official state song - "Here We Have Idaho".

October 12 - 14: Stinker Stores are partnering with the Boise Public Schools Education Foundation to support our SAFE program that serves students and families. Over the weekend Oct. 12 - 14 at participating Boise Stinker store locations, one-cent for every gallon of gas pumped will be donated to the SAFE program. We are hoping to raise $10,000 to support our students & families!

October 15 - 18: To recognize the National School Lunch Program and the 30 million children it serves everyday, Boise schools will recognize National School Lunch Week from October 15-18, 2018. The theme, “Lots 2 Love,” encourages students and school nutrition professionals across the country to share what they love most about school lunch programs. National School Lunch Week will emphasize the healthy foods that are offered daily at Boise’s schools. October 18: Gifted and Talented Information Night, District Services Center, Board Room, 8169 W. Victory Rd., Boise, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Parents are encouraged to come and learn about the types of gifted programs offered in the Boise School District, as well as the referral process and how students qualify. October 22: The Whiffenpoofs, the world's oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group, are excited to announce a concert at Borah High School, 6001 W. Cassia St., Boise at 7:30 p.m. Founded in 1909, the "Whiffs" began as a senior quartet that met for weekly concerts at Mory's Temple Bar, the famous Yale tavern. Today, the group has become one of Yale's most celebrated traditions. Every year,14 rising Yale seniors are selected to be in the Whiffenpoofs and take the year off of school to tour and perform. The concert will serve as a fundraiser for the Borah Choral Department. Tickets are available at whiffs.ticketbud.com and are $15 General Admission / $5 Student / $25 Priority Seating.

Timberline High Speech & Debate Team Recognized: The National Speech & Debate Association has recognized Timberline's Speech & Debate Team for earning an impressive number of points and degrees ranging from the Degree of Merit with 25 or more points to the Degree of Premier Distinctiion with 1,500 or more points. Because the Timberline chapter achieved a total of 100 or more degrees last year, it has ranked among the top 25% of schools nationwide and earned membership in the Association's prestigious 100 Club.

Garfield Teacher Recognized: Garfield Elementary School Vision Specialist Carol Scholz, (pictured) has been selected to receive a Commitment to Community Award from Community Partnerships of Idaho, Inc. for her outstanding accomplishments in valuing individuals with disabilities as important members of our community. The award will be presented to Ms. Scholz in an awards luncheon to be held on Friday, October 26 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Jordan Ballroom in the Boise State Union Building.
