Meet Our Youth Volunteers!

This summer we were able to receive a grant from the Tobacco Free Michigan coalition to hire youth volunteers to help with our work in raising awareness on youth tobacco usage in the community. It has been a wonderful experience for us to learn from the youth and help them grow as individuals in the community!

Healthy Senior Expo

We are so excited to have experienced another successful Healthy Senior Expo for the Downriver Community. A special thanks to all our vendors to help provide services for the seniors in our community and Brownstown Event Center for helping make this event possible at their location. Hope to see everyone next year!

Recovery and Resilience

Another wonderful year of working with the Downriver Council for the Arts (DCA) and The Guidance Center to host the Recovery and Resilience event in Wyandotte. This makes it possible for the Downriver Community to have their opportunity to take part in having their art displayed through the month of September in honor of National Recovery Month. DCA also allows us to use their gallery for our storytelling event, which happened on September 24th. We had a wonderful time thanks to our storytellers, artists, and volunteers.

October Awareness Month

October is National Bullying Month

How can we prevent bullying?

  • Addressing bullying and the fact that it exists is important to preventing it. By addressing bullying in school, at home, and even in your community, you can educate others and work on ways to prevent it from happening.
  • Creating a safe space for children and teens to go when they are a witness to bullying or are facing a bully will help to prevent future incidents.
  • Communicating policies on bullying in schools and communicating expectations for appropriate behavior helps reduce bullying as well.
  • Teach youth about bystanders and how they are essential to bullying prevention.

October is National Substance Use & Misuse Prevention Month

October is Substance Use and Misuse Prevention Month. The idea behind prevention is to prevent substance use in the first place, prevent the progression of use, and prevent consequences associated with use.
