DALLAS AFTERSCHOOL NEWS
OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME AVAILABILITY IN JEOPARDY
COVID-19 has affected our community in so many ways. One additional challenge is the gap it is leaving in the availability of free and low-cost programming. Since last May, out-of-school time seats have dropped by 45% in Dallas County, with 30% of all sites closing for good. As a vaccine becomes available, this issue will be even more critical as we work to close student academic gaps and support parents getting back to work.

Fortunately, Dallas Afterschool has been hard at work advocating for more public funding for these programs as we work to build a new, more equitable future for out-of-school time. To stay updated on our latest advocacy efforts, visit our advocacy page.
CHEERS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS!
Dallas Afterschool was able to provide some holiday cheer this Thanksgiving with the help of our amazing volunteers. Because of their generosity, we were able to collect and deliver Thanksgiving turkeys and food to support families in need for our partners at Brother Bill's Helping Hand and For Oak Cliff.
A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO
Christina K. Hanger
Happy Holidays!

2020 has been a pretty bizarre year for us all. As we reflect on the year, its challenges, and our accomplishments, we are incredibly grateful to those who have made a difference. We are fortunate to have a talented team of hard working professionals, a dedicated board of directors, and a group of very generous supporters that have helped us respond to the needs of the out-of-school time community when they needed it most. For details on our year in review, check out our annual report.

Thank you for your continued support and belief in our mission!
YOU CAN SHOP LOCALLY AND GIVE BACK
Through December 21st, you can shop our Stocking Drive at local retailer Toy Maven to provide educational toys and activities for children in our partner programs!
COULD YOU HAVE IMAGINED?
One year ago, we couldn’t have imagined that nearly all time would become out-of-school time and that the need for our services would be so profound. Our community has learned that out-of-school time programs do more than just provide social and academic enrichment for children. They keep kids safe, connect families with vital food resources, help single parent families work, and teach children how to cope with feelings of isolation, loss and grief.

As our city faces unprecedented challenges, Dallas Afterschool will continue leading the out-of-school time community and implementing new innovative tools that keep more students safe, engaged in learning, focused on healing, and motivated for their future.

Now more than ever, students in Dallas need your support. This holiday season, we invite you to make a gift to Dallas Afterschool. Together, we can ensure every child in Dallas has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
