Can you believe we are in our 7th year of providing literacy support? Literacy skills are vital to academic success, and as students face unprecedented levels of learning loss, this work is more important now than ever. To help students catch up and keep up in reading, Dallas Afterschool deployed 25 trained literacy tutors this summer to provide coaching and support. How did students do? Stay tuned until next month when we share our student literacy outcomes (and much more) in our Impact Report!

CONGRATULATIONS TO
OLGA GONZALEZ!
|
We are delighted to share that Olga Gonzalez, our Director of Quality Assistance for the past three years, has been promoted to Vice President of Program Services! Olga has 27 years of experience in the Out-of-School Time space and grew up attending afterschool programs herself. She holds a BA in Organizational Communications from St. Edward's University, a Nonprofit Leadership Certificate from SMU, and she is a Texas Licensed Child Care Director.

TEXAS CAPITAL BANK VOLUNTEERS
|
Dallas Afterschool had a great time hosting volunteers from Texas Capital Bank! The group learned firsthand about the power of inspiring curiosity in students using Wonder Kits®. They participated in our "Float Your Boat" activity that helps students (and volunteers) explore concepts like buoyancy in fun and creative ways. The group also spent time sorting and filling Wonder Kit® activity boxes for classrooms.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO
Marjorie Murat
|
Temperatures outside are rising this month, and we are working hard to ensure student academic progress and social-emotional learning continues to rise as well! Our literacy support highlighted in the top story is just one way we help make this happen.
As our team is out visiting partner sites, equipping them with new and exciting resources, I thought this would be the perfect time to share a new video of our staff in action!
|
Thank you for your continued support of our mission and work!
Sincerely,

DALLAS AFTERSCHOOL ACCEPTS CAR DONATIONS!
|
Dallas Afterschool now accepts most cars, trucks, vans, fleet vehicles, trailers, boats, motorcycles, and RVs as donations (subject to approval).
How does this work?
First, either fill out our online vehicle donation form or call (855) 527-2232 and let the representative know you want to donate your vehicle to Dallas Afterschool. Next, we will arrange a free tow for your donated vehicle. Then, once the car donation process is complete, we will mail you a tax-deductible receipt.

Last month we celebrated the extraordinary leadership and tenure of our past CEO Christina K. Hanger at her retirement party. On June 7th, there were plenty of hugs to kick off the celebration. Dallas Afterschool Co-Founder Janet Mockovciak shared examples of Christina's numerous accomplishments over the past eight years, then Board Chair Bill Morrison presented Christina with a leadership award and announced an Honorarium of over $26,000 (donations were made to Dallas Afterschool in honor of Christina and her outstanding tenure). It was a bittersweet occasion but Christina reminded everyone that, "This is not goodbye, but see you soon!"
In her next chapter, Christina looks forward to traveling with her family, continuing to serve as a Trustee of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and being an active member of the Advisory Council of Dallas Afterschool.
