DALLAS AFTERSCHOOL NEWS
NEW PARTNERSHIP OPTION
At Dallas Afterschool, we understand the unique challenges facing out-of-school time (OST) providers during COVID-19. One way we are helping is with a new partnership option. To provide more access to safety guidelines, quality-related resources, professional development opportunities for educators, and TEKS-aligned activities for children, we are now offering a Technology Only level partnership. This new option provides access to our online and on-demand resources and training via DAS360°.

OUR RACIAL RECONCILIATION COHORT IS OFF TO A GREAT START!
Our newest offering kicked off last month with a 25 participant cohort and will continue meeting monthly through June of 2021. Our first session last month featured speakers Owen WIlson-Chavez from Child Poverty Action Lab and Nancy Tien from Dallas Kids First discussing the history of racial inequities in our community. November's session will focus on culturally relevant teaching and to support all children in our programs
Participant comments:

"Great session!"

"I was very happy with the participation level from my peers. The presenters had given us valuable information to have meaningful discussion."

"Great presenters and information."

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO
Christina K. Hanger
This November certainly looks different than in years past. Nearly all time continues to be out-of-school time and our team is working around the clock to provide innovative new resources to help navigate a mostly virtual landscape. In addition to our new Technology Partnership level, we are working to provide capacity building opportunities for program providers as well as educational opportunities to supplement at-home learning. One thing hasn't changed though. Dallas Afterschool is still here supporting the out-of-school time community to ensure every child in Dallas has the opportunity to succeed.

Thank you for your belief in our mission and continued support as we work to build a new future for out-of-school time.

RAISING AWARENESS DURING LIGHTS ON AFTERSCHOOL
This year, participants from Mayor’s Star Council and Dallas Afterschool staff, board, and young professionals gathered virtually to celebrate Lights on Afterschool. This event featured some fun with an interactive Wonder Kit® activity with students from Heart House and New Horizons of North Texas. Also, special guest speakers, Taylor Toynes of For Oak Cliff and Dena Jackson of Texas Women's Foundation inspired the group by leading a discussion on the important role out-of-school time programs play in our community's workforce and in public safety.
