Hurricane Melissa struck southwestern Jamaica on October 28, with maximum sustained winds of 185 mph, causing catastrophic flooding, and destroying historic sites. The storm endangered 1.6 million children in Jamaica, Haiti, and the surrounding islands. Our thoughts are with all impacted. Our Facebook page has a link from the Manatee County Public Safety Department with suggested ways to help.
November is a great time for giving thanks. Thank you to our amazing LWR CERT members who volunteer their time to make our community more resilient. Keep your holidays safe.

It could be one of the 13 AEDs in the LWR CERT AED Network positioned throughout CEVA, CCW, GVBA and SRVA. | | |
Neighbors in the Augusta neighborhood gathered Sunday, November 2 for an Ice Cream Social and the opportunity to learn about the new AED located on The Masters Avenue. LWR CERT Director Responder Liaison John McInally introduced residents to the AED by first explaining how the heart works, then demonstrating how to use an AED.
Residents were given opportunities to practice using the training AED on a manikin and encouraged to download the PulsePoint app. The event was hosted by Jim and Karen Emanuelson who are part of the LWR CERT AED Network. We thank John for sharing his skills and knowledge with the residents.

Trailer Estates CERT is organizing a November Basic Training class. Each session runs 10 AM - 2 PM and will be held in Bayshore Gardens Recreation Center at 6919 26th St W in Bradenton. The first session meets Tuesday, November 4. Email Sharon for details.
All current CERT members wishing to attend as a refresher are welcome. Bring your Basic Training manual and come for all the sessions or just the units you wish to review. The class schedule:
