Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us this Sunday for Worship

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

The Scripture for Pastor Changsu's message will be:

Mark 10:49-52

49 Jesus stood still and said, ‘Call him here.’ And they called the blind man, saying to him, ‘Take heart; get up, he is calling you.’ 50 So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 Then Jesus said to him, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ The blind man said to him, ‘My teacher, let me see again.’ 52 Jesus said to him, ‘Go; your faith has made you well.’ Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.

RECEPTION FOR PASTOR CHANGSU AND FAMILY

Sunday, June 1st will be the Kim family's last day with us.

Following the service, please join us for a good-bye reception of hugs, tears, cards and cupcakes.

There will be baskets provided for your cards to the Kim family.

Changsu, Sue, Irene and Joshua Kim, your time with us has been much too short.

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

maryann13fenstermacher@gmail.com.

Psalm 115:2-8 Why do the nations say, “Where's their God now?” Our God is in heaven—he can do whatever he wants! Their idols are just silver and gold—things made by human hands. They have mouths, but they don't speak. They have eyes, but they can't see. They have ears, but they can't hear. They have noses, but they can't smell. They have hands, but they can't feel. They have feet, but they can't walk. They can't even make a noise in their throats! Let the people who made these idols and all who trust in them become just like them!

Daniel 4:34-37 “At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes to heaven. My reason returned to me, and I praised the Most High. I worshipped and glorified the one who lives forever because his rule is everlasting; his kingdom is for all time. All of earth's inhabitants are nothing in comparison. The Most High does whatever he wants with heaven's forces and with earth's inhabitants. No one can contain his power or say to him, 'What do you think you are doing?' So at than moment my reason returned to me. My honor and splendor came back to me for the glory of my kingdom. My associates and my princes wanted to be with me again. Not only was I reinstated over my kingdom, I received more power than ever before.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, worship, magnify, and glorify the king of

heaven. All his works are truth, all his paths are justice, and he is able to humble all who walk in pride.”

Luke 3:7-14 Then John said to the crowds who came to be baptized by him, “You children of snakes! Who warned you to escape from the angry judgment that is coming soon? Produce fruit that shows that you have changed your hearts and lives. And don't even think of saying to yourselves, Abraham is our father. I tell you that God is able to raise up Abraham's children from these stones. The ax is already at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn't produce good fruit will be chopped down and tossed into the fire.” The crowds asked him, “What then should we do?” He answered, “whoever has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and whoever has food must do the same.” Even tax collectors came to be baptized. They said to him, “Teacher, what should we do?” He replied, “Collect no more than your are authorized to collect.” Soldiers asked him, “What about us? What should we do?”

He answered, “Don't cheat or harass anyone, and be satisfied with your pay.”

1 John 4:18-21 There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear expects punishment.

The person who is afraid has not been made perfect in love. We love because God first love us. Those who say, “I love God” and hate their brothers or sisters are liars.

After all, those who don't love their brothers or sisters whom they have seen can hardly love God, whom they have not seen. This commandment we have from him: Those who claim to love God ought to love their brother and sister also.

The Board of Trustees – full steam ahead!

Thank you for making our All Church Clean-up Day last Saturday a great success! So much was accomplished inside and outside the church!

When it rains, it pours! You’ll see lots of activity around the church in the next couple months. These projects are all necessary, and all come with a price tag! The good news is we have a beautiful, established, complex building full of meaningful ministries! The bad news is we have a beautiful, established, complex building full of maintenance needs! Here’s what you’ll see happening:

  • Sidewalk Repair – This is a high priority item, as sidewalk damage is a safety hazard. We expect these repairs to be completed in the next couple weeks. The cost is under $10,000.
  • New Roof – We’re finally getting a new roof! After lengthy negotiations, our insurance company has agreed to replace the roof from storm damages. Our deductible is $50,000, which we’ll have to pay. Roofing is currently scheduled for May 19-23. What a blessing it will be to finally have this process behind us!
  • Parking Lot Sealing & Striping – It’s time again for the parking lot to be resealed before repairs become even more costly. Bids are being evaluated and estimates are coming in around $20,000. It’ll be awesome to have a more even surface with new paint marking our parking spaces! It’s likely this work will happen in the next few months.
  • Fire Alarm Panel Replacement – Definitely a safety and security issue! Our fire alarm panel is failing; the existing model is antiquated and must be replaced immediately. The cost is around $8000.

The Finance Committee has determined the cost for all these repairs can be covered by allocating funds from different areas of the budget if necessary. We don’t feel this is a good time in the life of our church to conduct a capital fundraising campaign. If you are passionate about any of these major projects and feel compelled to contribute, your donations toward them are appreciated! No amount is too small or too large! We are so fortunate to have this grand facility to be able to serve God through our ministries and fellowship, and it’s our responsibility to upkeep the property to the best of our ability!

Feel free to reach out to Marianne D’Amato, Chair of Trustees, at mariannedamatokc@gmail.com or 913.208.9875 with questions. You can also contact Steve D’Amato, Finance Chair, at sdamato@groebner.com or 913.515.6200. Any member of the Board of Trustees or Finance Committee will be happy to help find answers for you too!
