Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us this Sunday for Worship

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

Rev. Butch Ritter's message is titled:

"No, No, Nabal!"

The Scriptures are:

   1 Samuel 25:4-11

4 David heard in the wilderness that Nabal was shearing his sheep. 5 So David sent ten young men; and David said to the young men, ‘Go up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name. 6 Thus you shall salute him: “Peace be to you, and peace be to your house, and peace be to all that you have. 7 I hear that you have shearers; now your shepherds have been with us, and we did them no harm, and they missed nothing, all the time they were in Carmel. 8 Ask your young men, and they will tell you. Therefore let my young men find favour in your sight; for we have come on a feast day. Please give whatever you have at hand to your servants and to your son David.”’

9 When David’s young men came, they said all this to Nabal in the name of David; and then they waited. 10 But Nabal answered David’s servants, ‘Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants today who are breaking away from their masters. 11 Shall I take my bread and my water and the meat that I have butchered for my shearers, and give it to men who come from I do not know where?’

Hebrews 13:1-3

Let mutual love continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. 3 Remember those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; those who are being tortured, as though you yourselves were being tortured.

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Ezekiel 11:16-20 Therefore say, The Lord God proclaims: Even though I made them go far away among the nations, and caused them to scatter throughout the earth, I've provided some sanctuary for them in the countries to which they've gone. Therefore, say, the Lord God proclaims: I will gather you from the nations, assemble you from the countries where you were scattered, and I will give you Israel's fertile land. They will enter the land, and they will remove from it all the disgusting and detestable things. I will give them a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in them. I will remove the stony hearts from their bodies and give them hearts of flesh so that they may follow my regulations and carefully observe my case laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

Psalm 9:7-10 But the Lord rules forever! He assumes his throne for the sake of justice. He will establish justice in the world rightly; he will judge all people fairly. The Lord is a safe place for the oppressed—a safe place in difficult times. Those who know your name trust you because because you have not abandoned any who seek you, Lord.

Ephesians 2:4-10 However, God is rich in mercy. He brought us to life with Christ while we were dead as a result of those things that we did wrong. He did this because of the great love that he has for us. You are saved by God's grace! And God raised us up and seated us in the heavens with Christ Jesus. God did this to show future generations the greatness of his grace by the goodness that God has shown us in Christ Jesus. You are saved by God's grace because of your faith. This salvation is God's gift. It's not something you possessed. It's not something you did that you can be proud of. Instead, we are God's accomplishment, created in Christ Jesus to do good things. God planned for these good things to be the way that we live our lives.

Luke 9:46-50 An argument arose among the disciples about which one of them was the greatest. Aware of their deepest thoughts, Jesus took a little child and had the child stand beside him. Jesus said to his disciples “Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me. Whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever is least among you all is the greatest.” John replied, “Master, we saw someone throwing out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him because he isn't in our group of followers.” But Jesus replied, “Don't stop him, because whoever isn't against you is for you.”
