Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us this Sunday for Worship

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

The Scripture for Pastor Changsu's message will be:

Matthew 8: 1- 4

Jesus Cleanses a Leper

When Jesus had come down from the mountain, great crowds followed him; 2 and there was a leper who came to him and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, if you choose, you can make me clean.’ 3 He stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, ‘I do choose. Be made clean!’ Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4 Then Jesus said to him, ‘See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.’

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

Hosea 5:15-6:6 I will leave so that I can return to my place until they pay for their deeds, until they seek me. In their distress, they will seek my favor: “Come, let us return to the Lord; for it is he who has injured us and will heal us; he has struck us down, but he will bind us up. After two days he will revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, so that we may live before him. Let's know, let's press on to know the Lord; whose appearing is as certain as the dawn; who will come to us like the showers; like the spring rains that give drink to the earth.” Ephraim, what will I do with you? Judah, what will I do with you? Your love is like a morning cloud, like the dew that vanishes quickly. Therefore, I have attacked them by the prophets, I have killed them by the words of my mouth, and my judgment goes forth like a light. I desire faithful love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God instead of entirely burned offerings.

Psalm 33:16-22 Kings aren't saved by the strength of their armies; warriors aren't rescued by how much power they have. A warhorse is a bad bet for victory; it can't save despite its great strength. But look here: the Lord's eyes watch all who honor him, all who wait for his faithful love, to deliver their lives from death and keep them alive during a famine. We put our hope in the Lord. He is our help and our shield. Our heart rejoices in God because we trust his holy name. Lord, let your faithful love surround us because we wait for you.

Acts 23:6-11 Knowing that some of them were Sadducees and others Pharisees, Paul exclaimed in the council, “Brothers, I'm a Pharisee and a descendant to Pharisees. I am on trial because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead!” These words aroused a dispute between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. This is because the Sadducees say that there's no resurrection, angel, or spirit,

but the Pharisees affirm them all. Council members were shouting loudly. Some Pharisees who were legal experts stood up and insisted forcefully, “We find nothing wrong with this man! What if a spirit or angel has spoken to him?” The dispute became so heated that the commander feared they might tear Paul to pieces. He ordered soldiers to go down and remove him by force from their midst. Then they took him back to the military headquarters. The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Be encouraged! Just as you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so too you must testify in Rome.”

Luke 6:46-49 “...Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord' and don't do what I say? I'll show you what it's like when someone comes to me, hears my words, and puts them into practice. It's like a person building a house by digging deep and laying the foundation on bedrock. When the flood came, the rising water smashed against that house, but the water couldn't shake that house because it was well built. But those who don't put into practice what they hear are like a person who built a house without a foundation. The

floodwater smashed against it and it collapsed instantly. It was completely destroyed.”

CHURCH COUNCIL MINUTES

Church Council met on September 19th. To view the minutes, please click on the link below.

Minutes of September Meeting

This is a part of a message sent by Kathy Williams, Director of Clergy Excellence to Congregational Leaders in the Great Plains Conference-
As we journey into fall, we find ourselves in the heartwarming season of Pastor Appreciation Month. It’s a time when we intentionally pause to express our gratitude for the shepherds who faithfully guide us, pray for us, and lead us closer to God. Our pastors wear many hats: preacher, counselor, teacher, and spiritual mentor. They labor in God’s vineyard behind the scenes, often sacrificing their own needs for others. Their unwavering commitment to God’s Word and their love for God’s people inspires us daily. In recognition of their leadership, I encourage you to celebrate their ministry and unique gifts.
Here are a few ways you can honor your pastor this month:
  • Pray: Lift your pastor in prayer. Pray for their physical and emotional well-being, their families, and their spiritual walk. Cover them with intercession, knowing that their battles are often fought on their knees.
  • Words of Encouragement: A heartfelt “thank you” goes a long way. Write a note, send an email, or simply express your appreciation after a sermon. Let them know how their messages have impacted your life.
  • Acts of Kindness: Surprise them with small acts of kindness. Maybe organize a potluck lunch in their honor or gift them a book that has touched your heart.
  • Gifts and Tokens: Consider a love offering or a gift card to a local restaurant. A thoughtful gift for their family members shows appreciation for their sacrificial service as well.
  • Public Acknowledgment: During service, take a moment to publicly acknowledge your pastor. Applaud their dedication, share stories of their impact, and let them know how much they mean to your congregation and community.
Remember, our pastors are extraordinary human beings with their own vulnerabilities and struggles. Let’s be their cheerleaders, supporters, and prayer warriors. May we create a culture of appreciation that lasts all year long. Thank you for being a supportive community of faith and celebrating your pastors with joy and appreciation!

You can start bringing baked goods on October 10th in the afternoon.

Please mark what your baked good is and if it has nuts in it.
