Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us for Worship

this Sunday

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

Pastor Changsu's sermon Scripture will be

Matthew 18: 12-13

12 What do you think? If a shepherd has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray.

Last Sunday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Kenny and Jerri Ogden into our church family.

Please welcome them if you didn't have an opportunity to greet them last Sunday morning.

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

maryann13fenstermacher@gmail.com.

Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:

Revelation 18:15-20 "...The merchants who sold these things, and got rich by her, will stand a long way off because they fear the pain she suffers. They will weep and mourn and say, 'Oh, the horror! The great city that wore fine linen, purple, and scarlet, who glittered with gold, jewels, and pearls--in just one hour such great wealth was destroyed!'..."

Joel 2:12-13 Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your hearts, with fasting, with weeping, and with sorrow; tear your hearts and not your clothing, return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful

Psalm 4:4-5 So be afraid, and don't sin! Think hard about it in your bed and weep over it! Bring righteous offerings, and trust the Lord.

Zephaniah 3:14-15 Rejoice, daughter Zion! Shout, Israel! Rejoice and exult with all your heart, daughter Jerusalem. The Lord has removed your judgement; he has turned away your enemy. The Lord, the king of Israel. is in your midst; you will no longer fear evil.

Psalm 86:11-13 Teach me your way, Lord, so that I can walk in your truth. Make my heart focused only on honoring your name. I give thanks to you, my Lord, my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify your name forever, because your faithful love toward me is awesome and because you've rescued my life from the lowest part of hell.

Luke 14:7-11 When Jesus noticed how the guests sought out the best seats at the table, he told them a parable. "When someone invites you to a wedding celebration, don't take your seat in the place of honor. Someone more highly regarded than you could have been invited by your host. The host who invited both of you will come and say to you, 'Give your seat to this other person.' Embarrassed, you will take your seat in the least important place. Instead, when you receive an invitation, go and sit in the least important place. When your host approaches you, he will say, 'Friend, move up here to a better seat.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests. All who lift themselves up will be brought low, and those who make themselves low will be lifted up."

Coming Soon!

Surviving the Holidays: a survival guide with practical helps for the holiday season by Grief Share

Grief Share is a network of grief support groups for people grieving the death of a family member or friend.

November 16, 2022

6pm-8pm

Shawnee United Methodist Church

Please call Warren Livingston or the church office if you are interested in attending this one evening session.

Early Birds will be hosting on November 19th at 9:30AM a no-sew fleece throw get together to make fleece blankets for elementary age children to be included in the Christmas store at Crosslines and/or

Shawnee Community Center.

Each blanket will need 1 1/2 yards of fleece. Please bring scissors and ruler to the event to fringe the blankets. When choosing the fleece, look at patterns that would appeal to children. If anyone feels they cannot participate but would like to donate fleece or money, we would be glad to receive these gifts. An FYI, watch store sales on fleece as it is the season for it to be on sale.

We are also asking the congregation to donate books that would appeal to elementary children to go with the fleece blankets. What better way to read a book than bundled up in a nice warm blanket!

Any questions, please contact Vickie Hammons or Ophelia Behee.

HEIFER CHRISTMAS CARD PROJECT

– The Gift That Keeps Giving

We will be selling Heifer Project animals again this year in the Narthex from November 27 through December 18.

For those people who don’t know how Heifer Projects works, animals are given to people in third world countries, but the neat part of the program is that they are required to pass an offspring on to someone else the next year, so the gift continues to give.

Heifer Project also teaches people in third world countries better farming techniques, etc.  You can give an animal in the name of a relative or friend.  We have cards that you can give or send to the friend or relative telling them of your gift.
