Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us for Worship

this Sunday

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

Pastor Changsu's sermon Scripture will be:

Matthew 1: 22- 23

All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet:

'Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,

and they shall name him Emmanuel'

which means, 'God is with us.'

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

maryann13fenstermacher@gmail.com.

Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:

Psalm 40:5-10 You, Lord my God! You've done so many things--your wonderful deeds and plans for us--no one can compare with you! If I were to proclaim and talk about all of them, they would be too numerous to count! You don't relish sacrifice or offerings; you don't require entirely burned offerings or compensation offerings--but you have given me ears! So I said, "Here I come! I'm inscribed in the written scroll. I want to do your will, my God. Your instruction is deep within me." I've told the good news of your righteousness in the great assembly. I didn't hold anything back--as you well know, Lord! I didn't keep your righteousness only to myself. I declared your faithfulness and your salvation. I didn't hide your loyal love and trustworthiness from the great assembly.

Isaiah 11:1-5 A shoot will grow up from the stump of Jesse; a branch will sprout from his roots. The Lord's spirit will rest on him, a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of planning and strength, a spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord. He will delight in fearing the Lord. He won't judge by appearances, nor decide by hearsay. He will judge the needy with righteousness, and decide with equity for those who suffer in the land. He will strike the violent with the rod of his mouth; by the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked. Righteousness will be the belt around his hips, and faithfulness the belt around his waist.

John 3:17-21 God didn't send his son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him isn't judged; whoever doesn't believe in him is already judged, because they don't believe in the name of God's only Son. This is the basis for judgement: The light came into the world, and people loved darkness more than the light, for their actions are evil, All who do wicked things hate the light and don't come to the light, for fear that their actions will be exposed to the light. Whoever does the truth comes to the light so that it can be seen that their actions were done in God.

Revelation 21:1-4 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a voice from the throne say, "Look! God's dwelling is here with humankind. He will dwell with them, and they will be his peoples. God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more. There will be no mourning, crying, or pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."

Food Partners Ministry

Our Food Donation Partners ministry is underway. The donations from McDonald's include biscuits and other bread items, sausage and hamburger patties, chicken nuggets, folded egg portions, some desserts and pastries and more.

A note to our members and friends: If any of you are experiencing any stress or food insecurity and would like to have some of this food, please reach out to Changsu by email (changsu@shawneeumc.org) or cell (913) 752-7275 or Julie Italiano by email (jbitaliano4@gmail.com) or cell (913) 444-0126.. This will be kept confidential.
