Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us for Worship

this Sunday

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

The Scripture for Pastor Changsu's message will be:

Luke 15:18-20

18 I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me like one of your hired hands.’” 20 So he set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him.

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:

Psalm 33:13-19 The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees every human being. From his dwelling place God observes all who live on earth. God is the one who made all their hearts, the one who knows everything they do. Kings aren't saved by the strength of their armies; warriors aren't rescued by how much power they have. A warhorse is a bad bet for victory; it can't save despite its great strength. But look here: the Lord's eyes watch all who honor him, all who wait for his faithful love, to deliver their lives from death and to keep them alive in a famine.

Amos 5:12-15 I know how many are your crimes, and how numerous are your sins-- afflicting the righteous, taking money on the side, turning away the poor who seek help. Therefore, the one who is wise will keep silent at that time; it is an evil time. Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of heavenly forces, will be with you just as you have said. Hate evil, love good, and establish justice at the city gate. Perhaps the Lord God of heavenly forces will be gracious to what is left of Joseph.

Luke 1:59-66 On the eighth day, it came time to circumcise the child. They wanted to name him Zechariah because that was his father's name. But his mother replied, "No, his name will be John." They said to her, "None of your relatives have that name." Then they began gesturing to his father to see what he wanted to call him. After asking for a tablet, he surprised everyone by writing, "His name is John." At that moment, Zechariah was able to speak again, and he began praising God. All their neighbors were filled with awe, and everyone throughout the Judean highlands talked about what had happened. All who heard about this considered it carefully. They said, "What then will this child be?" Indeed, the Lord's power was with him.

Revelation 1:4-8 John, to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace and peace to you from the one who was and is and is coming, and from the seven spirits that are before God's throne, and from Jesus Christ--the faithful witness, the firstborn from among the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To the one who loves us and freed us by his blood, who made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father--to him be glory and power forever and always. Amen. Look, he is coming with the clouds! Every eye will see him, including those who pierced him, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of him. This is so. Amen. "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "the one who was and is and is coming, the Almighty."

HEIFER CHRISTMAS CARD PROJECT

The Gift That Keeps Giving

We will be selling Heifer Project animals again this year in the Narthex from November 26 through December 17.

For those people who don’t know how Heifer Projects works, animals are given to people in third world countries, but the neat part of the program is that they are required to pass an offspring on to someone else the next year, so the gift continues to give. Heifer Project also teaches people in third world countries better farming techniques, etc.

You can give an animal in the name of a relative or friend. We have cards that you can give or send to the friend or relative telling them of your gift.

BOOK CLUB

Our next meeting will be January 25 at 1pm in the Annex. Nancy Potter Wallace will lead the discussion of Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patty Callahan Henry.

All are welcome!
