Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:
Ephesians 4:11-16 He gave some apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. His purpose was to equip God's people for the work of serving and building up the body of Christ until we all re:ach the unity of faith and knowledge of God's Son. God's goal is for us to become mature adults--to be fully grown, measured by the standard of the fullness of Christ. As a result, we aren't supposed to be infants any longer who can be tossed and blown around by every wind that comes from teaching with deceitful scheming and the tricks people play to deliberately mislead others. Instead, by speaking the truth in love, let's grow in every way into Christ, who is the head. The whole body grows from him, as it is joined together and held together by all the supporting ligaments. The body makes itself grow in that it builds itself up with love as each one does its part.
John 1:43-48 The next day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and he found Philip. Jesus said to him, "Follow me." Philip was from Bethsaida, the hometown of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathaniel and said to him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law and the Prophets: Jesus, Joseph's son, from Nazareth." Nathaniel responded, "Can anything from Nazareth be good?" Philip said, "Come and see." Jesus saw Nathaniel coming toward him and said this about him, "Here is a genuine Israelite in whom there is no deceit." Nathaniel asked him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered, "Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree." Nathaniel replied, "Rabbi, you are God's Son. You are the king of Israel."
Psalm 51:6-12 And yes, you want truth in the most hidden places; you teach me wisdom in the most secret space. Purify me with hyssop and I will be clean; wash me and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and celebration again; let the bones you crushed rejoice once more. Hide your face from my sins; wipe away all my guilty deeds! Create a clean heart for me, God; put a new, faithful spirit deep inside me! Please don't throw me out of your presence; please don't take away your holy spirit from me. Return the joy of your salvation to me and sustain me with a willing spirit.
Genesis 9:12-17 God said, "This is the symbol of the covenant that I am drawing up between me and you and every living thing with you, on behalf of every future generation. I have placed my bow in the clouds; it will be the symbol of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, I will remember the covenant between me and you and every living being among all the creatures. Floodwaters will never again destroy all creatures. The bow will be in the clouds and upon seeing it, I will remember the enduring covenant between God and every living being of all the earth's creatures." God said to Noah, "This is the symbol of the covenant that I have set up between me and all creatures of the earth."
