Dear Thayer Families,

Tuesday, Feb. 3, is Thayer Academy’s 11th annual Founders Day: A Day of Giving. Through the last 10 Founders Days, we have raised over $3.4 million for Thayer’s Annual Fund from more than 9,500 donors. This year our goal is to inspire more than 1,000 members of our community to make a gift to the Annual Fund and, in doing so, help us to unlock more than $250,000 in challenges and matching gifts.

The Thayer Academy Annual Fund provides more than $3 million annually to Thayer’s operational budget, helping to cover costs associated with academic, athletic, and arts programming as well as faculty professional development, campus and program enhancements – including those funded through Senior and Middle School Legacy – and financial aid. Each year we are honored to be the recipient of philanthropic support from parents, guardians, alumni, past parents, grandparents, faculty, and staff – members of our community who see Thayer as a place in which they want to invest. Last fiscal year 86% of our current parents/guardians made gifts to the Annual Fund totaling $1.4 million. This year we're hoping to reach 88% parent/guardian participation for the first time in Thayer history! Your gift could be the one that gets us there, and Founders Day is the perfect time to maximize your support with the following challenges and matches to unlock:

$50,000 Overall Challenge

For each gift we receive for Founders Day, an anonymous donor will make a donation of $50 up to a maximum of 1,000 gifts and $50,000!

$50,000 Business Masterclass Matching Gift

Trustee Guy Daniello and his wife Sue P ’22, ’26 will match every gift made to Thayer's Business Masterclass dollar for dollar up to $50,000!

$25,000 Senior Legacy Challenge

This year’s Senior Legacy Chairs Kerrie & Jimmy Coughlin P ’24, ’26 will donate $25,000 if 65 parents/guardians of the Class of 2026 give to this year's Senior Legacy for the Peer Education Collaborative on Founders Day.

$25,000 Middle School Legacy Challenge

This year's Middle School Legacy Co-Chairs Susan & Dave Devine P ’25, ’30 and Sarah & Jim Dowden P ’26, ’28, ’30 will donate $25,000 if 50 parents/guardians of the Class of 2030 give to this year's Middle School Legacy for Studio Thayer on Founders Day.

$25,000 Student Opportunity Fund Matching Gift

Jenna and Kevin Leary P ’28, ’29, ’32 will match every gift dollar for dollar up to $25,000 made to the Student Opportunity Fund — providing for students in need of financial aid for non-tuition expenses such as student travel, school supplies, athletic equipment, transportation, and more.

Visit the Clock Tower and Other Giveaways

Everyone who participates in Founders Day this year will be entered into a drawing for great prizes, including: a Patriots football signed by Julian Edelman; Thayer Academy swag; and an opportunity to go to the top of Thayer’s Clock Tower!

There are other challenges and matching gifts supporting a variety of programs, initiatives, and teams as well as fun and interesting content that will help you to connect with some of our amazing faculty, staff, and students. Keep an eye on your email and Thayer’s social media channels to stay up to date on all of the fun and track our progress.

Your gift.

Any amount.

Every year.

It really is that simple. Please consider making your gift now. Your support is helping to keep Thayer moving forward.

Thayer, Thayer forever!

 Sincerely,

 Melissa Forger ’92 P ’25, ’28, ’29

Save the Date: Pener Conference is April 13

The fourth annual James Tufts Pener Environmental Stewardship Conference will take place Monday, April 13, on campus. The conference celebrates the spirit and legacy of James Tufts Pener ’23, who tragically lost his life just before his senior year at Thayer. The 2024 conference had 13 different schools and organizations join Thayer students for eight student presentations and eight hour-long, student-run workshops on sustainability and environmentalism; more than 125 students and faculty attended. The 2025 conference saw 10 schools and/or organizations join Thayer students; presentations included “Tackling Recycling With AI” and “Using and Advocating For Sustainable Transportation.”

Pete Malinowski, co-founder and CEO of the Billion Oyster Project out of New York City, will be this year’s keynote speaker.
