Emergency Communication System Test on Nov. 17

Thayer Academy uses a phone/text system to communicate school closings and schedule adjustments due to inclement weather or emergencies. In order to ensure the system is working smoothly and to identify any issues in advance, Thayer will conduct a test on Monday, Nov. 17, at 4 p.m. The phone numbers families have on file with the school registrar will receive an automated phone call with a test message at that time. The mobile phone numbers families have on file will receive a text message asking individuals to reply “YES” to opt in to Thayer’s emergency text messaging service. If you do not receive these messages on Monday or if you experience any other issues, we ask that you please email help@thayer.org. It is very important that Thayer test and troubleshoot in advance of the system's use, and we greatly appreciate your help with this process.

‘Beyond the Blueprint’ Is Current Gallery Exhibit

“Beyond the Blueprint: Architects as Artists” is currently on display in Koskores Gallery; the exhibit will run until Friday, Dec. 19. An opening reception will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, from 3 to 6 p.m., and an in-school reception will take place Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m.

This group exhibition honors practitioners and educators who navigate between the structural and the expressive, bringing architectural sensibilities into the realm of fine art. The work of these local artists, all with a background in architecture, demonstrates how design thinking transforms and enriches artistic practice. This exhibit reflects deep appreciation for the innovative perspective they all bring to their field. (PHOTO: Assembly Series #1, #2, and #3, 2024, by Eduardo Duarte)

The Middle School is once again running a drive to benefit Coats for Kids and Families. Members of the Thayer community are encouraged to donate warm winter coats — for both children and adults — from now until Friday, Dec. 19. All sizes are welcome, but please donate coats only. Longtime drive partner Anton’s Cleaners will clean the garments, so they just need to be in wearable condition. Drop-off boxes are located by the front door of the Middle School as well as in the Student Commons.

Thanksgiving Food Drive Led by Juniors

The junior class (class of 2027) and all Upper School advisory groups are engaged in Thayer’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive on behalf of Quincy Community Action Programs’ (QCAP) Head Start Program. Donations are due on the morning of Friday, Nov. 21. Students have signed up in advisory to contribute at least one food item from this list and are also asked to donate at least $5 to purchase Shaw’s gift cards so that families can purchase a protein to complete their meal. (The school has already purchased these gift cards in $10 increments. Cash donations can be given to a student’s advisor or sent by Venmo to Upper School History Faculty (and Class of 2026 Co-Dean) Heidi Brown (Venmo Account: @Heidi-Brown-120). Please ask your student what they have agreed to contribute to their advisory group's food basket and bring/send them to the grocery store — or your pantry — to select and purchase the items. Thanks to your generosity, our community will provide a Thanksgiving holiday meal for some 500 individuals.
