Mandatory Meeting Sept. 14 for

Parents/Guardians of Student-Athletes

A mandatory meeting for all parents/guardians of Upper School fall/winter/spring interscholastic student-athletes will take place Monday, Sept. 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the CFA. The meeting includes a presentation by Positive Coaches Alliance (PCA) and the athletic director. Thayer’s fall/winter/spring varsity coaches will be on hand to meet with parents/guardians following the presentation, which will be offered in the O’Toole Lobby of the CFA. Student-athletes from fall teams who are waiting for their parents/guardians may use the Student Commons while the meeting is taking place. 

Senior Parent & Guardian College Counseling Presentation

The Pulsifer College Counseling Center will hold an information session for senior parents and guardians Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. in the Tigers Den.

Thayer's college counselors will provide a nuts-and-bolts presentation in which they'll review the college application logistics for the fall. Counselors will cover this same information with students in senior class meetings and via one-on-one meetings, but counselors want to make sure parents and guardians are in the loop as well.

College Visits Begin Sept. 11

The Pulsifer College Counseling Center reminds seniors and the families of seniors that college visits to Thayer's campus begin tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 11). Please note: Sign-up is through Scoir, and visits take place during the school day. Seniors should remember to discuss attending a visit — at least 24 hours in advance — with any teacher whose class will be affected by the college visit. Juniors may attend if they have a free period. Seniors can see all pending visits in Scoir. Remember: Colleges want to meet you!

Summer Read (Grades 5 & 6) Author Visit

This past summer 5th and 6th graders read the book The Nine Moons of Han Yu and Luli by Karina Yan Glaser. Glaser is a New York Times bestselling and award-winning author of the Vanderbeeker series and The Nine Moons of Han Yu and Luli, among many other notable middle-grade and children’s books. The author will visit 5th and 6th grade students on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Students will get the opportunity to attend a presentation by Glaser and also participate in workshops with the author. In addition, the first 15 students to sign up will be selected to attend a lunch meet-and-greet with Glaser. Students who would like to sign up to attend the meet-and-greet lunch should complete this form. 

Middle School Back-To-School Night Is Sept. 17

A reminder: Middle School Back-To-School Night will take place Thursday, Sept. 17, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Middle School.

Homecoming and Reunion Weekend Is Oct. 3

Homecoming, TAPA’s largest event of the year, will take place Saturday, Oct. 3. Homecoming is a day of both athletic competition and community building. The day boasts a cornhole tournament, a bake sale, food trucks, a petting zoo, and the sale of one-of-a-kind Thayer merchandise. The day is also coordinated with reunion activities. This year will feature the opening football game on Thayer’s new turf field, part of the recently completed multisport athletic complex.

TAPA hosts a number of coffees for current Thayer families throughout the school year. Upcoming coffees include: 

• First Friday Coffee (for both divisions) tomorrow (Friday, Sept.11) at 8:15 a.m. in the O’Toole Lobby of the CFA. 
• Upper School Coffee with administrators on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 8:15 a.m. in the O’Toole Lobby of the CFA. 
• Middle School Coffee on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 8:15 a.m. in the Forum. 

Come meet fellow parents and guardians, ask questions, and learn about some of what will happen this year at Thayer.
