Lost Parakeet Reunites with Family through
Whitman Resident

On January 29th, during the storming blizzard, Stephanie Durante Gabriel saved a bright yellow and green parakeet that was huddling on her bird feeder outside. Through the help of social media, Whitman community members, and friends, Stephanie was able to get in contact with the bird's family.
She soon found out that the lost parakeet was named Lime who had escaped from the Lang family's home after a door was accidentally left open, all the way from Kingston. Lime had been missing since November 3, 2021, and despite all efforts to catch her, she hadn't been seen for 3 months. The day after Christmas was especially hard for her owners, twins Kayley and Addison, since it marked the one-year anniversary of the pet becoming part of their family.

As luck would have it, and through the power of digital communication, the Lang family is once again complete as Lime can now play with her sister parakeet Lemon.

Stephanie stated, "Now, I’m not sure who was the luckiest during this whole adventure. Lime found her family, Lime’s girls got their birdy back, Caitlyn [their mom] had overjoyed daughters, I got to rescue a parakeet in a blizzard and Facebook users were able to experience the adventure and its ultimate very happy ending. I for one am thankful I got to be a part of Lime’s journey."

And thank you to everyone who made this possible!

Here's to Winter

“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says, "Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.”
~ Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland / Through the Looking-Glass

“Spring passes and one remembers one's innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one's exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one's reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one's perseverance.” ~ Yoko Ono

“Winter is not a season, it's an occupation.”
~ Sinclair Lewis

“I know the look of an apple that is roasting and sizzling on the hearth on a winter's evening, and I know the comfort that comes of eating it hot, along with some sugar and a drench of cream... I know how the nuts taken in conjunction with winter apples, cider, and doughnuts, make old people's tales and old jokes sound fresh and crisp and enchanting.” ~ Mark Twain
We've had the full winter experience now, a nor'easter and snow to our waist. Glistening snowflakes and cold, wet discomfort. Is it possible to love and hate something so much at the same time? This, too, shall pass. And then I will miss it.
~ Jacquie
